Hey. Me and my partner have decided to try for another and I know I'm a long way off but it just got me thinking. I had a bad Labour with my lo . Failed vacuum then forceps delivery and third degree tear. I was told after that my body couldn't cope properly delivering a 8lbs baby. My labour wasn't progressing either. Anyone have a similar experience and deliver vaginally again or have a c sec ? I also heard second babies can be heavier. Thanks

I havent personally experienced this but my mum had terrible trouble giving birth to my brother. He was 8lbs 4oz and she hemorridge etc.

When it came to having me two years later she was very nervous but I was born within 3hrs weighing in at 8lbs 13oz. She didnt have any trouble and better yet, because of the way I was positioned she felt very little pain.

On the other hand my friend gave birth very easily to a 7lb baby and was home within a couple of hours. She gave birth to a daughter last month via c-section. She had assumed she would have another easier birth but it wasnt to be and even though the baby was only 5lbs she had to go for a c-section.

What I'm trying to say is every birth is so different I dont think you can plan. Perhaps when you are in the latter stages of your next pregnancy your midwife can arrange a growth scan - if they say baby is quite large you would then be able to make a more informed decision regarding opting for a c-section or not.

Good luck x

I had an episiotomy and 3rd degree tear with my first, and the tear went very deep internally as well. I got an epidural, which worked a little too well because I felt nothing. I couldn't even feel to push. After almost 3 hours of pushing (and my baby was face up), I had a vacuum delivery. She was 7 lb 13 oz. I remember it took like 45 minutes to stitch me up.

With my second, I tried to go without the epidural, but I couldn't cope with the pain. I got the epidural and this one worked perfectly. I pushed 3 times and that baby shot out. I got a 1st degree tear with this one. He was 8 lb 7 oz. This delivery was so much fun I would literally do it every day if I could. lol

Oh and to add, I was very afraid to give birth the second time around because of how badly the first went. But it was a breeze. I was also scared because the doctor said if you tore before then you will always tear again, but it won't be as bad the second time. The recovery from both felt the same, which surprised me because one was a lot worse. Oh and I also had a fear that since I tore twice I would have trouble holding my bladder and would leak pee forever or something, but absolutely no issues there.

Yes. My 2nd was also a full pound smaller (my 1st was over 9lb). My 2nd slid out without even a tear (although I will admit to pushing 2 hours). It felt 'normal' within a week but the 1st time felt 'normal' after a year! Amazing difference. Did you have any interventions in your labour? Pitocin? Epidural?

Yeah I had an epidural and also pitocin because the labour just stopped when I was 6cm dilated . I had to have an episiotomy too . I suppose its just a chance I have to take . It is worrying though since the first time was so bad . I ended up in theatre from the labour ward because it was taking too long to stitch they were afraid I might get an infection . Didn't get too see LO properly until the morning as I was knocked out in theatre

I am terrified about giving birth again. I had an easy labour but when it came to pushing i got a 3rd degree tear, not close off a 4th and went straight to theatre for 2 hours, narrowly avoiding a blood transfusion due to blood loss. he was 9lb 2
I Have been so sore ever since, only just been able to start usuing tampons, and am on movicol and lactulose to help me poo as the muscle is so shot i can't feel when i need to go therefore it can be a week between bowel movements without the medicine

I'll have another vaginal birth, but i will be sh*tting myself leading up to it! pardon the pun

Hi,
None can say whether you will have normal or c-section.It all depends on the position of the baby and your condition.May be first child was normal but for second you may have to go for a c-section.Eat healthy so you can face anything.

My 1st was 9 pounds, I had a 3rd degree cut (almost 4th)- it was painful healing, including sex. I delivered vaginally with my 2nd as well and he was born earlier, he weighed 8 pounds 3 ounces, I did tear but it wasn't too bad.
