I don't know where to start. I just got back from my HSG/Hysteroscopy/D&C and they found that I have either a heart shaped uterus or a uterine septum which could explain why I have had 4 miscarriages in the past 2 years. My Dr. has suggested we do a Lap in 4 weeks to determine which of the two I have. I am just devastated. Anyone else have this and sucessfully conceive?

Keeping faith - im sorry to hear that you had this bad news. I just recently got bad news from my hsg too. I think that oliveoyl has this condition that you mention - you can find her in the ttc buddies - in THE ONE TUBERS team - she is also a doc - and so sweet.

Take care and hope that you get some more answers.

Hi keeping faith,

First off, big hugs, not an easy diagnosis for you I am sure.

I have a mullerian abnormality, of which heart shaped uterus or septate uterus is a version. The most important thing is to get the correct diagnosis as the treatment varies, so the lap is a great (though not so much fun) place to start. If you have a sepatate uterus, surgery is quite easy to correct the problem and pregnancy outcomes are good.

For more info there is a yahoo group for people with these issues. There are many women who have had successful pregnancies - so don't be disheartened. https://health.groups.yahoo.com/group...rianAnomalies/

There is also this blog which may help answer some questions https://mulleriananomalies.blogspot.c...ered-here.html

I'm happy to answer any questions you have, if I can. I have done quite a bit of reading on the topic, and I am in my final year of medical school. Be warned though that many doctors don't know much about these abnormalities, and correct diagnosis is extremely important.

Hugs xx

PS blue12 - shucks *blush* thanks love

Thanks so much for your support. They also found that my right tube is blocked and the recurrent miscarriages could be due to the fact that the left side isn't as well supported as the right. Oliveoyl I read alot of places that early miscarriages usually mean it is a uterine septum not a heart shaped uterus, but again no way of really knowing without a Lap. How about a 3D ultrasound, would that provide the same information. I just thought that everything would be normal and at most they would find something minor. I just hope we get through this and have a healthy baby in the near future :)

Hi there,

My doctor said an MRI is the best way to diagnose this. When I was pregnant and went in for an ultrasound, the doctor said I had a bicornuate uterus. Later I did an MRI and HSG, which showed I had an arcuate uterus, not bicornuate, so I really recommend the MRI.

Lots of hugs

Meli - I think MRI and lap are supposed to be about as good as each other, but with a MRI you need it to be read by a radiologist experienced in the field. The positive side of a lap is that if you have a septum, they may be able to remove it then and there.

Running late for work...... gotta go, be back later

Hi Thatgirl,

Can I ask how they knew if you have a bicoruate vs. a septum? I have had 4 very early miscarraiges which makes me think I might have a septum instead of a heart shaped uterus but won't know anything until the lap.

lots of hugs

Hi ladies, i have a severe bicornuate uterus.

had mc (from right side)
had son (now 19mnths) from left side
had m/c (from right side)
and now currently ttc from left side

luckily i can feel which side i am ovulating from and have been advised by my consultant to only go for the left, seems the left is slightly bigger and better shaped to carry the baby, hence the m/c's from the right side.
i have been told there is a much higher risk for m/c and that baby often cant turn and will be in transverse position (sideways) or breech, i had a c-seciton. also premature labour is possible.

keeping fx and babydust to all x

Hi Puffinsmom - do you have 2 separate uteri, or one uteri with two horns? Thanks in advance xx

can someone please tell me what is the difference with a bicornuate, septate and arcuate uterus???? I am so confused and have been diagnosed with a septate uterus with a 1.2 cm septum. A surgery to remove it was recommended. I went for a 2nd opinion and they also recommended the surgery to remove the septum. But the 2nd dr called it an arcuate uterus. I simply thought it was a different term for the same thing. Am just so confused right now. Please help. Thank you in advance to all
