I stopped BF my LO at a week old as I was really struggling. We started him on Cow & gate and it was fine. Over the last few days I have noticed that he seems to be straining to poo, especially in the early hours on his 4am feed. He has 5oz every 2-3 hours. He's quite a windy baby, and has been since he was born so I know it's not the formula that is causing this. He goes for a poo at least twice a day and its normal colour/texture it should be. I have tried giving him baths, tummy massages & cooled boiled water but none seem to shift. He doesn't seem bothered or upset by it but I'm wondering if it's normal?

Thanks x

Sounds fine to me. Most young babies appear to strain when going for a poo, but as long as its soft, and he doesnt seem to be in pain then its 100% normal! Twice a day sounds fine as anywhere beetween a poo after each feed or once every few days is considered normal (as long as its not hard or painful to pass). xxx

TBH I think it's normal for such a young baby...Jack did all of that but has grown out of it now. Probably their little bodies getting used to processing milk!

Totally normal for a young baby, they're still getting used to doing it, doesn't sound like he is constipated so I'd stop the water but do tummy massages after his baths :flower:

It takes a while for their bowels to get a routine - and then things like jabs etc upset it all again. My only used to go once every two days. We used SMA but he was very windy so we changed to cow and gate at 6 weeks and he's still on it now at 19 weeks. Different things suit different babies. I'd give your LO a bit longer on cow and gate as they;ve only been on it for a couple of weeks.
