My almost-8-month-old has suddenly developed an obsession with sucking baby wipes! She gets frantic with excitement when she sees the packet and screams the place down if I take it off her. I'm wondering if the cool moistness helps sooth her gums. Anyone have this? Is it safe?

My son will pretty much put anything and everything in his mouth but I haven't noticed any extra excitement towards wipes. You probably are right, its either soothing or she likes sucking the moisture out of them. I would think its not the safest thing unless you are using wipes without the added chemicals, fragrances, etc. Having said that, I'm sure its not the worst thing in the entire world either. There are wipes made just out of water (Water Wipes) which might be good to switch to if you are nervous or another brand without the harsh additives. But who knows, its probably just a passing phase?

My LO likes her dummy clip and fabric now she's teething. Could you try a facecloth dipped in cold water?

Omg yes! She always sucks them, and I hate taking them Off her because she screams!!

I agree with LoveCakes, I don't know what is in those wipes so I wouldn't allow it. I would wet a face cloth and give her that to suck on.

Yeah, I'd make her switch to a wet cloth! You could try hiding it behind the wipes packet?

My DD1 used to do this too! I would have thought the taste would put them off but it seems not!

Thankyou so much for the wet cloth suggestion, that's perfect! I will try that out tomorrow. The wipes I use are fragrance free/ssensitive, would never let her have them otherwise, but still not really comfortable with it.

She does look funny sat there with a wipe hanging out of her mouth! X
