Maisie is 15 days old now and is still quite jaundiced.

Last week, at 11 days old we were sent to the hospital after the midwife visit for a few blood tests. All came back completely normal and I was told the jaundice would be clear by 14 days.

Well today the midwife has just been and has told me to take her in again tomorrow for more blood tests as she is still very yellow. Im really worried now, ive googled (bad, I know) and all it talks about is liver damage leading to brain damage.

Has anyone elses baby had prolonged jaundice and their baby been ok? Im really worried now and looking for some reassurance

yeah try not to worry william had it quite bad and after 20 he still had it and after so days they have to be referred to the hospital but they just had a look at him took urine sample and they never even took his bloods and said it would go eventually and try and keep him in a window exposed to natural lighting. i think if they have it fo ra long time they just have to refer as a precaution but i wouldnt worryxxx

B's took about 3 weeks to start to even look better. Urine was tested at 14 days but they said just to continue feeding as much as poss and I put her moses basket by the window which helped, so she slept in bright light for an hour or so a day.

B's forehead was the last to clear & shes fine now with no adverse effects.
:hugs:

Hey hun, Maddison had jaundice from a few hours old and wasn't released from hospital until she was 8-9 days old. She was under the Neoblue light that treats jaundice for a few days and also had to wear a biliblanket. Shes only just cleared properly and started to look more of a normal colour, Don't be worried hun, they will just test her biliruben levels, and if they're slightly high, will probably admit her and use the neoblue light. Its completely normal for newborns to be jaundice hun, some just take longer than others to clear xxx

Thanks everyone.

Kerrie - they checked her bilirubin levels on Thurs last week and they were 207. I was told the average is 200 - 210 and they would only consider treatment if they went over 250 so im hoping its the same tomorrow. Its definitely got better though.

Just panicked when I googled!

Will update tomorrow xxxx

callums took 3-4 weeks to totally go. he never had any treatment or tests for it, infact it was me that pointed it out the the midwife/health visitor.

Ahh the levels aren't too bad then, sometimes the colouring just stays for a while. Maddisons levels went right up to 301 at the highest, and when she was discharged they was 194, But she still 'looked' jaundice for a week or 2 after, the HV said she still looks abit jaundice on friday but we can't see it (obviously she knows better). I hope it clears soon hun xxx

My Lo had jaudice a few hours after birth and we stayed in for 6 days under a billy bed and light.
When we got her home we set up her basket in the window and just sat with her there. Id say she was still yelow at 3 weeks.

But at about 16ish days she did this poo that I cant even begin to decribe to you how much of it or how vile it was. But she got better very quickly after that.

Shes coming up to a year now and shes doing brillliantly

Daisy was 3 and a half weeks before her jaundice went, she didnt have phototherapy. Shes fine now

Yikes. I didn't think it would last that long.
Devin had to be re-admitted at 4 days to go on the Bilibed for phototherapy. He was on it for 24 hours, then he had to be retested. His levels had gone down low enough that he didn't need further treatment.
I was told his yellow colouring would go away quickly...and that by the end of week 2 his eyes will have cleared up. Hearing your stories...is 2 weeks too soon? Will he be yellow for longer?

Thomas's lingered for ages - I actually thought it was totally gone after about 3 or 4 weeks but when I look at the photos from when he was six weeks old he is clearly still very sallow compared to now, so that must have still been a bit of jaundice in his system.

Ronan was/is. He's a lot better looking now but it lingered for a long time. The doc said that it's not at all uncommon in BF babies, nor is it uncommon for it to linger for weeks.
