I go back for my official induction Thursday and I do plan on having a epidural and I would love some advice on how everyone experienced there's?

I had an epidural after being induced just prior to EMCS. Didnt feel the needle go in. Pain relief was so quick. Such relief. I wouldn't have any hesitation in having another epidural if needed. Good luck! :hugs:

I did! I had a really long slow labour was knackered, so they recommended it - it's total complete relief from the pain, I was sat reading a magazine in bed not a bother on me :) also had a nice sleep! But I didn't opt to have it topped up before pushing, and ended up in pain again haha! If you want to go pain free to the end, take the top up!

This was 7 years ago, but can't imagine much has changed :)

It can slow down your labour though, and I ended up having a ventouse assisted delivery :/ but sure that could have happened anyway?

I'm planning to go natural with number two... but hmm ask me again when I'm in labour! haha! xxx

why are you being induced? When I had my epidural with my son, I wanted it so badly. I was induced because I was leaking fluids. I guess that was a good reason for them to induce, even though my labor was starting on its own. Anyways, I was in such pain because they kept cranking up the pitocin that the needle in the back was not felt at all! Unfortunately, the epidural only lasted a few hours before it stopped working.

I had an epidural, I chatted the needle going in, hates the sensation of the fluid going in, had horrible back pain after and am still tender in that area and... It didn't work at all! The midwife and anaesthatist didn't believe me either, even when I was standing up!

I did...I was in so much pain the needle didnt seem so bad at that point! Hahaa. It really helped me. I got my needle at 9 am. Fell asleep..woke up at 10:30 with sever pressure in my bum. Had my dd at 11:08.

I also had an induction with an epidural. Best decision for me as my bub turned and became back to back with me (excruciatingly painful). I was in labour for 9 hours and knew when to push as I also had the sever pressure in my bum.

I had one as I was induced and the pitocin drip caused my BP to rise so they had to do an epi to lower it. It didn't work and I was still in severe pain as George was back to back and I couldn't move... I got to 8cm before they re-did it but the second one worked and the pain relief was amazing. They stuck the needle in too far though and punctured my spine so I ended up with a spinal headache after delivery.

I was induced and had 2 epidurals, both of which failed and I felt everything! This rarely happens though. If you are being induced with pitocin I recommend getting one because the constant pain is horrendous.

I was induced and after 2 days and nights of contractions I had the epidural... it was bliss! Next time I will try and do it without, but if my labour is as long as my last then I will not hesitate to get it. I would have been too tired to push if I didn't have it x

Hi ya - I had an epidural. Planned induction at 37+3 (no problems that's just whenthey induce twins)

Injection - fine, didn't even feel the liquid going in painrelief instant but could still feel sensation so felt connected and in control. My waters broke 2.22am epi in 5am boys born 10.12am and 10.26am (second twin breech)

All fine and a really positive experience - best of luck youll be fine xxxxx

I had one....I went about 30 hours before giving in. Pure relief!

i did have trouble sitting still for the needle because I was having continuous contractions. The nurse had to hold me still and it was hard.

But once it was in the relief is amazing!

I did have bad shakes once it wore off but I was also coming out of an EMCS and I was very drugged up LOL

all in all I would do it again, especially if I can try for a VBAC

I had epi with all 4 of my older LO's ,DS1: great DD1:had two as the first wore off in 30 min. DD2: first one stopped working, second one numbed only right leg and third one didn't' work until LO was born(useless at that point) DD3: great. So I will definitely do it again with this one, as you see all pregnancies are different.

My epi didn't work either. I felt everything and had complete control of legs, bladder etc. it just numbed one part of my left upper thigh. They didn't believe me either until they saw I could move my legs. The anasthiologist said that sometimes epis can be spotty or not work at all.

3 failed epis. . Well I say failed I was numb from the chest.. yes chest lol down but had a window of excruciating pain on my right side of tummy.. apparently the MW should have turned me from side to side? Xxx

I had gone into labour with it written in big letters NO EPIDURAL !, but had one after 9 hours as bubs was determined to appear sunny side up and i couldn't have managed without it. I felt nothing while it was being done although it did take about 15 mins to kick in but once it had i was numb from the upper abdo down. I could honestly have kissed the anaethetist after he'd done it. It enabled me to get an hours sleep which meant i delivered without a c-sect. For me it was the best decision i made during labour.

Well, originally I wasn't going to have one. But by the time I was 5cm, the pain from the contractions were exhausting me and really intense. I knew I'd be too tired and mentally fatigued to push if I kept dealing with it. The girl had a hard time getting it into place, so I felt these kinda shock pain feelings as she moved the needle in my spine. But once she got it in place, the relief was great. I felt warm, happy and relaxed. No more contractions. But by pushing time, I started to feel the pain again. And it was intense by the time he was crowning(in which he got stuck for a bit and I dealt with the ring of fire for awhile). I have a high tolerance for pain and I was literally crying at the pain. So I'm guessing..mine wore off at the perfect time. Then I felt them stitching me up for an hour(had bad tears). Despite that, I was thankful for the couple hours of relief I did get from it after dealing with intense contractions for two days straight.

I've had a few.

My first baby was induced with pitocin because after 3 days of consistent contractions I wasn't progressing. Unfortunately I wasn't able to have an epidural due to hospital policy (military hospital) and that delivery was complete and utter h.e.l.l. In fact, it was so bad that I insisted on scheduled induction with pitocin and epidural for my next two. Those were completely uneventful and I had no ill effects of the epidural at all.

For #4, I decided to do a home birth. I loved it so much I did it that way for the next 3. #8 was supposed to be a home birth, but I was transferred to the hospital for pitocin for failure to progress and chose to do the epidural because I wasn't going to go through another experience like my first. That epidural was my worst one. It worked just fine... too well. My legs felt like they were as big as my entire body and were completely worthless. I couldn't feel a thing. They asked me if I felt like I was ready to push and I just laughed. I told them they were going to have to tell me! With #9 I also ended up being transferred and had pitocin and an epidural. That one was the best. It was just enough to take the edge of the contractions, but I could still feel the entire birth process. It was wonderful!

I should add that ALL of my babies have been posterior (sunny side up, back-to-back, whatever you want to call them) and so I have had extremely painful back labor with each one of them. I was able to get through it with my natural home births, but whenever pitocin is in the picture, I will never do that without an epidural again.

I'm sure you will be fine. Good luck and I hope you have a great delivery!

I had my baby boy on Thursday and had an epidural. The first attempt the anaesthetist put it in the wrong place and I started to leak spinal fluid, then he put it in the right place and it was an almost instant relief... For a few hours and then it wore off. I ended up having to have forceps and felt the whole thing and now I'm getting a lot of headaches and neck pain due to the spinal fluid loss but luckily it has stopped leaking now. If I chose to have another baby I would have the epidural again as apparently a repeat performance of my experience is highly unlikely.
