HI everyone, My OH and i are looking to get married in the next 6 months ( before i have a huge bump). We dont have alot of money and will probably have to have a registry office wedding. Has anyone got any tips about doing it on the cheap? xx:flower:

Hi there,

DF and I are getting married on a budget.... I would defo suggest bargin hunting on ebay... making invites, place cards etc.... always shop around!

STICK to the budget!

Best of luck with your plans!! xxx

Me and mine got married a few weeks back as a quickie before I got massive.

We did it at the registry office and I have to say - when I first thought about doing it there I thought it would be horrid (dull/tacky) but it was lovely. If you want it to be straight forward and simple this is the best way to go and, although not convenient to everyone, a midweek wedding is much cheaper. We kept ours very small, we each only had one sister with us and two of our joint friends (and in the end everyone was able to sign as our witnesses).

Following the ceremony we went to the local park and had champage (one flute for me) that had been given as gifts (the best ones are still unopened waiting for bubs to arrive so I can enjoy them fully) and strawberries. All followed by going back to our place for a bbq.

I can honestly say it truely was the best day of my life - no stress, no fuss, just happy memories. Just remember you are getting married for you - not for anyone else - just make sure you are happy and you do it the way you want to.

that sounds lovely. Im just worried cuz i have a huge family and they are all expecting an invite. Id like it to just be us and our close family/friends. I dont have a clue about palnning a wedding though. Do you still have to have flowers and things in a registry office? I thought about asking round the conservative or labour clubs in the area because apparently some of them give you the room for free because your bringing in business. My MIL is a DJ and the family said they would put on a buffet. xx

sorry for the ramble lol

Sounds like you have quite a few offers of help already

You dont have to have flowers...some people have balloons for decoration (they look really good if you choose the right shapes/colours), so you would only need flowers for you and bridesmaids to carry. If you can, I would wait until the Jan sales to buy your dress, and even then get one from Monsoon/Debenhams/John Lewis etc...or keep an eye on eBay (another girl on here just got a gorgeous one off ebay for £35 )

RE: your family, I have a big family too, but I am not having them to the ceremony. If they dont like it they can shove it, basically. It's up to you what you do for your wedding day. It's not for them, it's for you and your life partner :hugs: Or you could choose a really small venue so that you have no choice but to limit your guests. They cant argue with you then

For photography, speak to your local college/uni and advertise there for a photography student to come along do the day for £50 or something and then just get the images on a disc for you to print up at a later date. Or, if there is someone in the family/friend who could do it, you could ask them to do it as a wedding present for you? But it gets awkward coz they then dont get to enjoy the day as much

And like others have said, do alot of the easier things yourself (invites, place names etc). Good luck and congratulations :flower: xx

we're getting married on a budget too... i have been reading and writing alor of budget weddings bought a brilliant book today on it....

i got my wedding dress on ebay, it is brand new worth a few hunderd and i paid less than £36, my budget for this i had set at £150 because i believed i couldn't get anything cheaper, i have been keeping an eye on freecycle alot of stuff often comes up there from people, but we are going to do simple wedding invitations which able to get loads of card for about £3 then just need to find pack of envelopes which can get from poundland,

hire where u can, mens suits sometimes easier to hire but asda do a great range of wedding stuff!

we're getting our rings from argos but you can get nice ones from james watts. but you can often get both for less than £50 but if you want to spend more go for it.

for photos ask family members if they know someone in family who is great at taking pictures and have them do it as a wedding gift to you? otherwise post on classified you need someone cheap maybe someone who does it as a hobbie or is a student they usually do it for £150 max!

buffet is cheaper than meal, so might be worth putting buffet together yourself, we're hoping to do ours for less than £500....

reg office is good way you can do this for less than £100.
reception venue why not hire a community hall, we're getting ours from 5pm - 1am for £133 + £15 for alcohol licence, we're hiring a bar company who will come free and just keep the money they make for the drinks, going to buy the first round and thats about it, my OH wants alot of bottles of Asti at the wedding as its like or is champange but alot cheaper and tastes pretty good too....

bridesmaids and flowergirls etc you could ask them to buy thier own, or buy on ebay also, lightinabox.com are pretty good for dress prices, or wait till winter sales after wedding season.

wedding cake you can buy the tiers out of Asda, Tesco or M&S and built it yourself pretty cheap...

cars, try and get family and friends to help as much as possible get family member with a nice car to be the main car.....

not sure what else to advice but always here to help and answer any questions. we're doing our wedding on £2k but hoping to do it for less.

thanks alot some great tips xx

we're doing alot of the stuff ourselves which hopefully will save money, we are making the favours (home made tablet in heart shapes and then cellowrap) we're doing our our save the date, invitations and placecards etc....

gonna make up our own buffet i think but considering going lower on other things soo we can have a better meal cause my OH loves food i had set £150 but only cost me £30 for my dress sooo saved £130 for other stuff.

got to plan loads of other stuff...
