Just wondering! Im going insane here!
Iv had a swollen left calf for a few days now and I had a ultrasound to check for a clot which he didn't find any. But he was really quick and I'm worried that he might have missed it as this morning iv woken up with a vein which has come to the surface going down the inside of my leg !
Painfull at times but think I'm so worked up and worried that it's making it worse! Why else would I have the vein and the swelling still :( ?
Any answers would be appreaciated!

Usually a DVT you will have a positive Homans sign, which is pain when you flex your calf. MOST of the time, you wont see a DVT. Usually when you see a blood clot it means it is superficial and it will be red, painful and warm. (That doesnt mean you can't ever see a DVT, but usually it is so deep, it isn't seen.) You could have a superficial vein blocking blood flow and causing the swelling or it could be from something else entirely. My advice to you though, is if you truly believe they were wrong and you werent accurately assessed, go back. I have a blood clotting disorder that is hereditary and I have lost two cousins under the age of 30 from it and almost lost my mom twice. I would rather look like a nag than let it break loose and go to your lungs. Did they put you on any blood thinners as a precaution or give you any info for a follow up???

I too have a blood clotting disorder. I had a major clot in 2006 and nearly died from it not being evaluated properly in time.( I was having some other issues at the time related to a sprained muscle and the doctors thought that was why my leg was starting to swell.)

If you are concerned don't hesitate to go back to the doctor. If you feel that it is getting worse ( ie more swollen, harder to walk, any breathing problems) I'd go to the ER immediately. Not trying to freak you out and sorry that you are concerned about this. Take care!

Oh I should probably also mention as soon as they did an ultrasound they found the clot in me. So it wasn't like I was getting false negatives from the ultrasound exam.

You can also ask about a blood test called D-Diamer. It determines your probability of clotting currently. So if there was a clot developing in your body the blood test would pick it up.

I went back to my midwife today and expressed my concerns and she said that it could be a nerve to but that the scan would have picked it up and not to stress! Im wearing a compression stocking and just feeling a bit stiff to walk :/
But pain is gone and only comes and goes VERY occasionally!
So I have no idea. I'm seeing my gp Thursday about my thyroid so might mention it then!
Seriously I'm so scared of just suddenly passing out or dying or something! It's so scary!
But mainly just the swelling at the moment ! So Im stumped!

I had a DVT in 2009 in my groin, I didn't realise anything was wrong until my leg swelled up like a balloon. My doctor was great and gave me a heparin injection, referred me to hospital for a scan, saw the DVT nurse who decided after doing her assessment/checklist that I had no risk factors and therefore didn't need a scan!

After my mum telling her if they isn't then I'd be going private I got a scan and had an extensive clot in my groin (very large and very high!)

They attributed that to the pill, 8 months warfarin and no problems since.

Got pregnant, beginning of June I went to A&E as my leg was swollen again (not to the same degree as before), they gave me a clexane injection and scanned my leg the next day, I have another clot, same leg but in my thigh this time.

No major dramas, just need to inject myself daily with the clexane until 6 weeks after baby's here- my follow up with consultant was this morning and my blood tests how no reason why I've developed another clot other than a high level of oestrogen in my blood (sme hormone in the pill they though caused my first clot)

If they scanned you properly then they would've seen if one thing wasn't right

HOWEVER, if you think they rushed it or something still doesn't feel right then GO BACK

Better to be safe and reassured Hun than worried or at risk xxx

Thankyou! I have a bit of an update. I went back to doc today and she said its unlikely they missed it. Anyway I just don't feel right and about 3 hours ago started feeling very short of breath. I freaked out and was at my antenatal classes at the time. The midwife told me to go see the after hours gp in same building. She was okay and told me
She was concerned because there was a considerable difference in both calves. She suggested emergency but then said she could also give me the forms to go get another scan and a blood test done tomorrow morning! I decided to go with that as the breathing sort of settled and I'm
Not sure if it's because of a potential 'clot' or whether I was so anxious I'd made myself do it. Anyway I left and am now in bed. Iv had some ventolin and I'm just breathing through my anxiousness! I'm guessing the breathing wouldn't get better but worse if it was a clot?! I'm just trying to take it as it comes but I'm really really scared and afraid that I won't make it to the morning or something :/ I will be ringing to make an apt first thing in morning and I'm just going to try and get some sleep. My leg is now
Swollen on top as well but that could or could not be from
The compression bandage I had on!
Can't stop worrying and that certainly won't help my high blood pressure :(
Arghh ! Obviously if the breathing gets worse or I get chest pain or SOEMTHING I'll be straight off to
Emergency..but iv worn myself out from
Crying and stressing so sleep
Sounds good ! Wish me luck :(

Hey! I just wanted to say not to worry too much. I know that's easier said than done. But, everything sounds really hopeful. Your ultrasound showed no blot clot, your doctors are on board with re-checking you, and you are actively pursuing this issue.

When I had my DVT, I had no clue that it might be a blood clot. I had one leg twice the size on the other for a whole week before I got an ultrasound and I could barely walk.

It's a difficult situation to be in ( wondering if you are clotting) on one hand everyone says get immediate attention if you start to have symptoms. On the other hand, symptoms can be symptomatic of other things. After my DVT in 2006, I spent years with panic attacks over the potential of a new clot so I know how stressful it can be.

As far as the breathing, sometimes I would confuse my acid reflux or asthma issues with a potential DVT symptom. Plus like you mentioned stress can totally be a factor.

I think its really great you are being extremely proactive about your concern. Even if its just nerves, its so important to get it checked out.

I don't know where you live but you clearly have access to health care and an ER. Just that realization alone helped a lot over the years when I was really worried.

Hang in there and don't feel bad about getting checked out as many times as you need to ease your mind. It's your health!

Did your doctors check you to see if you have a blood clotting disorder? I was on the pill but, I also have Factor V Leiden and May Thurners Syndrome, which caused my clot. Sorry to be inquisitive, I just thought you might want to get checked out for these things if you haven't already.

I'm on fragmin as Mum had 13 clots on the lung and leg when pregnant and had placental abruption. Yes, go back if you're worried hun x

Thankyou hun :) I did end up going to hospital(at 3am :( ) because I was making myself hysterical from worrying! I feel so sorry for baby the past 24-48 hours I haven't stopped crying/being scared/stressed! But they ended up keeping me in until the morning and they re did my leg scan and also did a lung scan which were both negative. So finially was discharged Yesterday at 3pm. Was the most horrendous 12 hours in hosp tho ! And I get home and my thigh is now swollen and red :( seriously what the hell
Do I do now ! Spend another night in emergency or just put it down to pregnancy ! :(

Wow! Sounds like you have really been through the ringer! I've been in that position of waiting around all night in the ER, no fun!!!

I don't blame you for still being concerned as to why one of your legs is swollen. Do your doctors have any theories as to why that is?

The fact that the tests were negative is great news.

I'd keep an eye on it and try your best to relax.

Maybe elevate the leg while you are resting?

Take care!!

I know it is good news but I keep thinking what if it hadn't reached the lung yet and they missed it or something :/

They say it's just pregnancy related like the baby pushing on a nerve or something! and the breathing is just asthma flaring up from baby pushing so much on lungs!
No idea just so scary :( The swollen thigh is red but not hot or painfull so have no idea. And surely they would have picked it up yesterday because was swollen for the scan too !

Hey there. I know this is an old thread, but I'm dealing with this situation now with a blood clot. I've actually been homebound already 3 months, and the doctor said it could easily take 6 plus months to break up because my blood clot is the entire size of my left leg from pelvis all the way down to my shin. From your post, it sounded like you had your leg all swollen up as well and thats what happened with me. It still is what happens if I'm on it too long during the day about 15-20 minutes. At the beginning I couldn't even stand up in the shower and hardly could get to the bathroom by myself. But I'm going stir crazy because I have so much energy and no way to expel it. Do you maybe have any helpful tips? Even basic yoga moves cause me pain because of the blood clot in my leg, but I don't know what else to do and I'm barely sleeping at night. I may get 3 hours of sleep if I'm lucky. I just can't seem to get tired enough because I'm basically confined to my bed all day :-( Hoping to get some insight. I'm sick of everyone around me telling me what to do when they haven't even been in my situation and they keep comparing me to other women who have had blood clots even though in a lot of cases, the blood clots are small clots that pass through the urine and have nothing to do with deep vein blood clots which happen to be the size of Mount Kilimanjaro. Hoping for some guidance! Thanks!

All that was supposed to be a reply to MeiaMariposa! Sorry just joined and still getting the hang of this.
