My baby is currently transverse and has been for a while. I saw a consultant today who has booked me in for another scan in 2 weeks time and if she hasnt moved they will do an ECV.

Just wondered if anyone has had one and could share their experience??

Thanks x

Just curious what is a ECV ?? Thanks !

Thanks , how do they do it? Are you worried ?

I believe they literally just turn it with their hands from the outside of your body....and yes very nervous just wondered if anyone had been through one and was willing to share their experience xx

It stands for external cephalic version... Haven't had one myself but a close friend did. She said it was a bit uncomfortable but it worked and she delivered her baby normally a week or so later :-)

Hello! I had a successful ECV last year. Second pregnancy and baby had been breech for many weeks. The procedure was complete within a minute with only the final few seconds hurting. They scan you before to check what position baby is in. Sophie wasn't in an ideal position so they had me walk around the ward and scanned again in 10 minutes. Scanned again and she was in a good position for the consultant to move her so I got into position. Laid on my back with my legs at the head end of the bed, raised. They then gave me an injection in the thigh to relax the uterus and started straight away, scanning the whole time. I felt pressure on my tummy while the consultant slowly moved her around. I couldn't actually feel Sophie move. The only point that did hurt was the last few seconds when her head dropped into my pelvis. I was encouraged to use gas and air but felt it wasn't needed but used it anyway. Felt a little shaky after but I think that was a mixture of relief and happiness that she was finally head down so I could have a natural birth. The following day I did feel a bit uncomfortable. Tummy felt bruised but it wasn't. It also felt very odd to have Sophie head down where I hadn't felt the pressure before! Sophie was born a week and 2 days late, naturally :-) Hope this helps, feel free to ask questions!

Awww thanks for sharing your experience! How long did you have to stay in? xx

I didn't stay in as such. They checked all was well with another ultrasound 20 minutes after the procedure and then I was free to leave. They booked me in for a scan 5 days after to check that she had stayed in the head down position!

oh thats great that you didnt have to stay in. I've got a scan in a weeks time to see if she has turned on her own.....she hasnt yet though as can still feel her head at the side of my stomach :(

Ouch! Sophie had her head wedged between my ribs! All the very best. I'd be interested to hear how you get on.
