has anyone had FSH injections? if so how did they work out for you? i may be trying them in a few months, if this is not my cycle. :flower:

Hi, I'm on my TWW with 4th cycle of FSH injections. Got pregnant on first round but sadly had a m/carr at 6 wks. No joy on following 2 cycles but had follicles both times so obviously conditions just weren't right elsewhere. Hoping that this is my lucky cycle. Wishing you the best of luck with them...if you have any questions just shout!!

thanks a lot! i wish you tons of luck with your 4th go at it!

i don't know if this is too intrusive, but was it very expensive? i've heard it may be a little pricey.

thanks!

Hi Pinky. :flower:

I'm on my first round of Menopur injections (FSH + LH) and so far so good. My FS started me out on the lowest dosage - 75iu - to see how well I respond. On CD8, I had two follies - 11mm & 12mm. I go in for another u/s tomorrow (CD11) to see if they've grown.

I've been very pleased with Menopur thus far, seeing as I never responded at all to Clomid. Of course, giving the injections are no fun, but they're not painful. I've also been experiencing some side effects... bloating and pain around my ovaries. Again, nothing unbearable.

If your insurance has infertility coverage, the meds shouldn't be too expensive. My prescription insurance covered all costs of a 10-day supply of Menopur except for about $300, which I'll be claiming with my health insurance to be reimbursed 100%. Just takes a while. If you don't have insurance, I'm afraid it can be quite pricey. :-(

Good luck with your cycle. :hugs:

amb-thank you very much for replying! i do have health insurance, but not sure if i have the part which covers infertility. i guess i'll find out! do you have to see a fertility specialist to administer the FSH injections or will they do that at my gyn's office? and is it just a shot in the arm? i'm sorry i'm asking so many questions, but i am really curious, as i believe this will be the next step for me. :winkwink:

thank you for your help...i totally appreciate it. :hugs: good luck with your cycle!

You're very welcome. :flower:

A quick call to your insurance company or a looksie at your benefits will tell you all you need to know. DH and I are very, very blessed to have such amazing insurance. If it wasn't for that, we probably wouldn't have been able to move on to an FS so quickly.

Normally, an OB won't prescribe injections, it's sort of out of their realm of expertise. I did 3 rounds of Clomid with my OB before she referred me to my FS. Unfortunately with injections, you have to mix and administer them to yourself at home once a night. They're done subcutaneously (in the tummy) with a very small needle. I was terrifed at first, but if you can ever get through the first one, the rest are a breeze. :winkwink:

Don't hesitate to ask questions, that's what we're here for! :hugs:

thanks! i have an appointment with my gyn on january 6th, and if i'm still not ovulating, i'm curious as to see what he suggests. i did 3 rounds of clomid also with no success, and am trying soy this cycle. [-o<

oh wow i dunno if i could stick myself with a needle  i guess whatever it takes! eek!

Hi Pinky, I was the same about the needles but once the first one is done it becomes just one of those things that you have to do in the hopes that your dreams will come true!! I was the same regarding clomid..50mg, 100mg and 150mg...not one of them made the follicles budge!!

Hi I have unexplained infertility and 6 rounds of clomid had no pregnancy results for me. Im in my 2ww from my first cycle of FSH + IUI, my dr put me on the lowest dose because i tend to over produce eggs lol so i had 2 nice sized ones. The injections are really easy and painfree :) I hope it works for you x

Oh btw, i have a huge phobia about needles, the night i was supposed to get my first injection i told my oh to do it, he kept on trying but i kept on running off screaming lol i was sweating and shaking the whole shabang! i even said i dont want to ttc anymore cuz i was so scared. in the end, after 2 hrs of oh trying to calm me down i took the needle and just lightly put it on my skin to see if the needle was sharp (obviously it was, i was a little irrational at that point) and it just slipped in by accident! I didnt even feel it go in, my oh said "hunny you need to inject now". so it really is nothing to be scared of :D
