I go in for mine on the 10th, and i'm very very nervous, as ive never had any kind of surgery. Im very excited, hoping once the endo is removed (if thats the issue), i can conceive. My husband and i have been trying for two years now. Im just curious as to what i should expect?

I had laparoscopy done in 2012 - But mine was for a softball sized cyst needing to be removed from my left ovary. It might vary if they're scraping off parts of your uterus? I'm not sure. I know for the first few days I wasn't allowed to climb stairs, but there was no way I would of been able too.

I was incredibly sore and a little painful, it hurt to even go over bumps in the road. Of course, I was super tired, and slept a LOT. Had to lay at all times, and needed help getting to a sitting position to stand, and I needed help getting to and from the bathroom. I had reaaally bad shoulder pain as well from the gas they inject in you. I had that until all of it was gone. I believe I bled for a few days after it too.

Honestly, it wasn't that bad. The scariest part was waiting to go back - They told me before my procedure that if my cyst was cancerous, my entire ovary + tube would be removed, and then if they found more cancer cells on the right side, I'd have a total hysterectomy right then and there. The second thing I asked when they woke me up was if I still had my uterus. Ha! Good luck - Try not to get too worried or anxious! :)

ouch! maybe yours was painful because of how much they had to remove!
But my wonderful husband took two days off work plus has the weekend, so he has 4 days to take care of me. my friend had one for an ectopic, and said it wasnt that bad. I think my worst fear is being put under :(

Could be! I've been put under a # of times - one second you're being wheeled somewhere, the next you're waking up to them telling you you're done! You got this! Good luck - I'll be hoping for a good outcome!!

I've had a lap/dye done. Nothing removed, but lap was for suspected bilateral blockage of both tubes because my HSG showed a blockage. The scary part was waiting to go back into surgery, but once I got the meds to relax me before being put to sleep I felt ok, then the next thing I knew, I was being woken up in recovery. I will not lie. I was in a great deal of pain when I woke up, it had literally felt like someone had their entire had inside my uterus and pulled it out! But they very quickly gave me morphine and I was ok, that was the only time after the surgery that I had been in that much pain. The first couple days I was sensitive, very swollen, but I was told it was ok to walk to move the gas around to avoid gas pains etc, so I did! I walked a lot, very slowly and very carefully, and it helped. My swelling was pretty insane I looked about 5 months pregnant lol. I had bruising as well pretty much on the entire lower stomach which is common. Over all, give yourself at least 2 weeks to get back to normal, take things slow, and just listen to your body. I bled for about 3-4 days afterward, but it was never heavy at all.

In the end both tubes we open and no blockage was found.

Good luck!

Hi ladies,

Thanks for sharing your stories, although I am now in tears. I am so freaked out about the fact that I may have to have a lap too. 14 years ago I had full blown surgery to remove a cyst and they removed the whole ovary :( so I have one left, TTC, and found out cysts are growing on it. The largest is 5cm. He's sending me for a sonohystogram to ensure my tubes aren't blocked, then maybe a lap or full out surgery if need be. So worried. I hate surgery. My last one took 6 weeks of recovery time. How long of a recovery is a lap? Anyone have any luck after having a lap?

My doctor told me that if it is endo, ill probably be able to get pregnant. I was told i could go back to work after 3 or 4 days. I guess it just depends on what they have to do.

I had lap surgery back in June along with a hysteroscopy. I didn't experience any pain at all after the surgery, but in my case the anesthesia meds really knocked me out. I ended up only taking two of my prescribed pain meds because they made me so sleepy. I was sore, especially around the incision cites, but not in any really pain. I also didn't have the gas pains in the shoulder that most women experience. But in general I was very slow moving around, tired, and I couldn't move around all that well due to the soreness.

I took off a week from work and I really needed it. I felt much better after two weeks, but it took about a month before I was 100%.

For me, they only removed a paratubal cyst and did a lap and dye. They removed a tiny polyp in the hysteroscopy. No endo or adhesions were found. They couldn't get the dye to flow through my right tube, but they couldn't find anything blocking it and it looked fine in every way, so they couldn't say 100% if it was blocked or not.

Good luck on your surgery! I hope that they are able to find the problem and fix it!!

I had that in Dec 2012...honestly it wasn't that bad. Just make sure you follow your discharge instructions...fizzy drinks, lots of rest, and get up every once in a while to move around so the air gets out.

It did help with the pain, although I'll warn you, your first cycle after surgery might be VERY painful. It did not cure my infertility, however.

I had a lap done on march 5 this year. It was also my very first surgery ever and I was terrified. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I think the worst part for me was feeling sick after being put under. I also couldn't conceive the for the last 2 and a half years. They found stage 4 endo. I did bleed for 3 days afterwards from them burning out the endo and the chocolate cyst. I had mine done on wednesday and by monday I would say that I could have gone back to work. I hope that you can conceive after the surgery that is still my hope and prayer. This will be the first month we get to try after the surgery! yay!

Do you have endo symptoms or are they just doing the surgery as exploratory?

I had a lap done to remove my endo last November. I was so afraid to be put to sleep because I had never had surgery befor, but honestly it was good. I had the surgery on a Friday morning and I was back at work Monday. My pain was minimal. The most interesting part was how long it took me to wake up. From what I was told I kept "waking up" and saying I was ready to go home and then immediately falling back asleep. I don't remember this. My DH was in the recovery area with me and he said people kept coming in and waking up and being discharged and I was just sleeping. I only took a few of my pain pills because I didn't need them. I slept all weekend, and probably should have stayed out of work that Monday because I was so out of it from being put to sleep. Good luck with your lap! I hope it goes well!

:flower: I hope your surgery went well.

I had mine done last year around this time and it wasn't too painful. I was knocked out because my OBGYN wanted to remove a tiny cyst and do a lap as well. Afterwards I wasn't in too much pain. They gave me Vicodin and sent me on my merry way. :haha:

I will say that for a few days when I used the bathroom, there was dye in the toilet and I did spot for about 2-3 days afterwards.

I just had a lap and hyst this past Friday so I'm still recovering. Like many already mentioned I'm sore and have a lot of shoulder pain from the gas. Unfortunately I was diagnosed with severe endometriosis to the point the doctor didn't want to remove any as he said it would decline my chances of TTC through IVF. Now I'm not sure what to do or which direction to go...

I'm so sorry to hear, Swtshae! What are your options at this point?!?

I have an appt on ?Tuesday to discuss my options. He assumes I have endo. I have cysts on my last remaining ovary (5cm) and the secretary whispered to me tht they found I also have fibroids! Like....what next?!? :(

I don't know how we'll deal, but we will. Hoping to try some natural alternatives, vitamins, diet changes, etc. if anyone knows of some that may help, please pass them on.

I think at this point I need to just wait and see what the doctor says at my post op appointment. He did mention to my husband after the procedure that he thought I should get back on the birth control pill (for 3 months) to help reduce the estrogen levels in my body which increased levels aid in endometriosis. This is also the beginning stages of the IVF process so he felt I would be killing to birds with one stone. However, I'm not sure if I want to do IVF or if I want to get back on the pill. I have a week to think about it and discuss things with my husband before I see the doctor but I'm thinking that people get pregnant with endometriosis all the time and don't need infertility treatments so I can just take my chances. I don't know... I'm just trying to leave it all up to the good Lord above.

How are you guys doing?

I had a lap and a hysterscopy in November 2013 where the doctor found lots of adhesions in my tubes and a chocolate cyst (which they drained). He managed to push dye through my tubes but only just. I was terrified about going under surgery but it was fine, I promise. I woke up in some discomfort but it was quickly remedied with some drugs. The recovery too was uncomfortable but not painful. I was given 2 weeks off but I was back at work in a week.
It was the best thing I ever did. My mid-cycle bleeding significantly reduced and I had less menstrual pain. Even better, I got my first ever bfp 3 months later after over 4 years of trying. I am very lucky and thankful that it worked. Whatever the outcome, having some answers is worth it.
Good luck and sending lots of baby dust xxx
