Anyone have a c-section for non-medical reasons?

I just wondered whether anybody had a c-section for a non-medical reasons, e.g due to their mental health (which i'd count as medical but ykwim)

I'm considering my options at the minute but I'm just so scared to go through childbirth again. My first experience of it was terrible. I got severe PND after the birth and suffered post-traumatic stress, a lot of time has passed (along with lots of different types of anti-depressants and hours of counselling and therapy) and the thought of going through labour again makes me go cold and shake and just want to be sick. Even slightly remembering the experience makes me burst into tears :nope:

I vowed i wouldn't get pregnant again, even though I always wanted a big family. Anyway two years on i still stuck to this but we've had a surprise and I'm pregnant again. i feel so lost and confused because i never thought I'd have to go through birth again, but the fact it's inevitable is just taking over my thoughts and I can't sleep at night :(

Sorry for the rant.. all I really wanted to know was how easy is it to access a c-section. i live in the UK and it's been in the news that all women have a right to choose a c-section if they want, but im not sure how easy it really is. I know it's painful and risky etc. but it seems like the only okay option for me at the minute. So I'm interested to know if any of you had a c-section for something not medically related? xx

I have had 3 sections ,my first was a emergency c-section but the second one was up to me vaginal or c-section i chose c-section and the third was the same as the second..i personally find it easy even though it is major sugery..the thought of pushing out a baby scares me ...im sure u will make the right decision for u and doctor do normally leave it up to the woman they may give there opion but in the end its ur body and ur choice ..good luck :) ill be praying for u

Hey hun :hugs: I had a c section and it was originally due to mental health reasons and this was my first pregnancy so by all means after what you went through and the PTSD you suffered you should be entitled to an elective right away and you would be if you were over here but we have a different system (personal midwife right through pregnancy including the first 6 weeks PP) so it would be up to the initial consultant and doctor but you should get one. Mental health in extreme cases constitutes as a reason over here so it should do in the UK also this is your second baby too.

A good friend of mine had a c-section in order to have her baby on her birthday! Plus she is really really short so ( just a little over 4ft ) and she felt that a vaginal birth would be close to impossible without immense pain. Everything worked out just fine for her and bubba! Good Luck to you

Mental health was the main reason behind my ELCS. I also suffer from vestibulodyina, which is a physical condition which was adding to my fear/anxiety surrounding labour. Like you, I'd said no more children, then had a surprise  I had only just gotten to the point of even being able to discuss some of the issues which my first labour had brought up. No way I could go through that again. I had to fight a bit, as although the registrar had said my request made sense, the consultant played hardball with me.

Be prepared to have them challenge you. If it helps to have someone (your husband or another family member) there, then make sure they come with you to as many antenatal appointments as possible. Write out your reasons for wanting a section, in as much detail as you are prepared to go into. And stick to your guns. You're not requesting one frivolously, it's obvious that it'd be best for you.

Good luck :hugs:
