anyone have scan, no fetal pole but next scan show something?

Hi,
I had my first scan yesterday, should be around 7 weeks (though before I was on BCP my cycles were closer to 35 days so dates could be off, wasn't charting ovulation). there was only a sac, nothing else. Dr said return for another scan in a week's time but there is only small hope that anything will change. Anyone had this and gone back to see something change the following week???
Have had no bleeding, spotting anything so I had been feeling quite positive about it all until the scan.

When I went at 5 weeks and 3 days Dr. only saw a sac. When I went at 7 weeks 4 days there was heartbeat and baby. Who knows --- maybe your less than 6 weeks

I went for a scan at 6+2 and only saw sac and yolk. Went back 2 days later and they measured bubs at 3.4mm. Sometimes the little beans are just slow growers. I hope your next scan is much more positive.

My sister is pregnant we went to her first sonogram and she was 6 weeks according to her sonogram well all they saw was a sac measuring 4 weeks 3 days. she had a sonogram done a week later and there was bubs with heartbeat and all measuring 6 weeks 3 days. was your sonogram internal?

Yes it was internal. Dr said she would have expected to see something, even if my dates were off and just to come back in a week's time. She wasn't very optimistic but I know there is a chance, however small it may be. This waiting a week is so hard!

try & stay positive, you might just be too early, i had my scan done at 6 weeks 3 days, i had to have an internal one done because he couldnt find anything doing the external scan & said ive not drank enough water..hope the next visit shows your little bean

Hi,

You may have ovulated early. I know i do, but i never tell my GP that i know i OV early, i know because i use a fertility monitor.

I went for a scan when i was 6 weeks past LMP, the scan showed a sac and yolk and it measured at 5 +3. I was told to go back 9 days later for a rescan. In that 9 day wait i had red bleeding. When i had the rescan the fetal pole measured at 6 + weeks and there was a clear HB.

It helps to have a little understanding of the measurements. I think i'm correct when i say...

Gestational sac - this grows 1mm a day from week 4. Therefore a gestational sac measuring 10mm is equal to 4 weeks plus 10 days (5 weeks 3 days)

CRL - This grows 1 mm a day after week 6. Therefore a CRL of 6mm is equal to 6 weeks plus 6 days.

These are just approx measurements which i found on another website.

Please feel free to correct me if i'm wrong anyone.

Hi - My scan at 6w4d showed an empty sac with not even a yolk sac inside...a week later there was a yolk sac, a fetal pole and a heartbeat!

Keep positive and assume all is well unless you have concrete evidence to the contrary!!

I had a scan at 5 and half weeks just showed sac and very small yolk and a couple of other empty sacs went back at 7 weeks and could see heart beat. Sure you will be fine. Every body is different. x

I had a scan at what I thought was 6 weeks but was told I only measured 5 weeks and there was a sac and yolk but no fetal pole. They said that was normal for 5 weeks and when I went back 6 days later, I measured 6 weeks 4 days and there was a HB and everything.

Just try not to worry, all pregnancies different and somethings develop a little quicker or slower xx

hey just to offer some support from my experience, i had a molar pregnancy last time around so had to have lots of early scans this time.

my first one at about 5 weeks: there was only a yolk sac no heartbeat or fetal pole
second scan a week later: beautiful heartbeat and fetal pole

its amazing what can happen in the space of a few days, like the other girls said hun if you didnt track ovulation then maybe you are a little earlier on than you thought.

i had a scan at 5 weeks with my last pregnancy they could literally only see a dot... couldnt even confirm it was def the sac.. was rescanned at 8 weeks there was baby and heartbeat

I had a scan at 5 weeks last time and they could only see a gestational sac. 2 weeks later they found the heart beat. Did they tell you how big the sac was measuring? Maybe you are just less far than you think?

Try this site also: www.misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com and go to blighted ovum stories - there are people on there who were misdiagnosed as having a blighted ovum even as late as 9-11 weeks.

Good luck - the waiting is very hard. Fx you will get a good result next scan.

Hello, this is my first forum.. how comforting all your posts are to me right now. I had a scan today as I was spotting this morning. It showed an empty sac and nothing inside it at all. I have to go back in two weeks to be rescanned... From my ovulation date I think I am only 5 weeks, although the scan showed 6 weeks. I just wanted to thank you for all your words of wisdom, you are giving me hope xxx

I didn't have a HB at 5 weeks but went back at 6 weeks and there it was!! It was only 112 so it had just recently started!

I think the problem is going to the dr. so early, it causes unnecessary stress. The reason I had a scan done at 5W3days was b/c i actually went to a gynecologist by mistake and she thought i was just there for my yearly exam (As I had my lst one like 11 months before that). She still had a sonogram machine so she decided to check while I was there. I immediately thereafter made an appointment with a OB and he did not want to see me till I was 8 wees or so! probably for the very reason you described.

I don't have any advice but I just wanted to say that I'm thinking of you, and willing your little bean to grow grow grow! It must be horribly stressful waiting a whole week for your next scan. I hope that it doesn't go too slowly for you x

Firstly stay positive. I had to have a scan at 4wks 4 days as i was in a lot of pain they only saw a sac had to go back a week later 5wks 4 days again they only saw a sac so they done an internal one the same day and saw the yolk sac had to go back a week later again he said a few days can make a huge difference so i went back a week later and there it was a fetal pole with a hearbeat of 119 i had given up all hope completely i broke down crying in my husbands arms in the waiting room while i was waiting for my scan and was well beyond amazed when i was thast little heart beating. Ive had bleeding on and off and a lot of pain the whole pregnancy so far but its still hangin in there. You will be ok as my husband says you gotta try and be positive no matter what until you know for sure.

Hi there, last pregnancy I had a scan at 6w4d and baby meadured 7mm and there was a little white flickering heartbeat!! so I'm sure you'll see something lovely next week. I'm going for a scan on thurs and I'm petrified!!
