Thought I'd post to see if there are any fellow sufferers out there? Doctor diagnosed me as being aneamic last year prescribed iron tablets and sent me on my way. I got a copy of my notes which showed I was lacking in folic acid and b12 too. My doctor noticed this but didn't treat it though I do take a multi vitamin. Going to go back and have repeat bloods this week and then see my doctor to discuss the results and hopefully get a proper diagnosis.

Can I ask what symptoms you suffer from and if you are on b12 injections?

For me my memory is the worst closely followed by the tiredness. I'm 27 but feel trapped in an 80 year olds body :( x

Me:( i was diagnosed with perncious anemia(b12 deficent) nearlly a year ago while 28 weeks pregnant, im on b12 injections every 3 months but there not helping with the symptoms mine are
extreme tiredness
heavy eyes
fast heartrate
upset tummy at times
foggyness
forgetful
depression
the worst for me is the exhaustion its horrible:( my levels are good atm but now anemic again, :/ its a horrible thing to live with no one realises how bad it really is im also young im 21 :( xx

Big hugs hun your right no one seems to understand how bad it makes you feel even my hubby thinks I use it as an excuse to be lazy but it's not that simple. The tiredness is getting worse for me lately falling asleep in the day at least twice and having to pinch myself to keep awake as my 20 month old would destroy the house lol.

Going to get repeat bloods taken this week as then see my doctor and push for a diagnosis of PA as all my symptoms point to this. Last time she just prescribed iron tablets and they have done nothing to help with the tiredness x

aww im the same hun:( the same happened to me, iron tabs just wernt doing anything and my level just wouldnt rise so they tested for b12 deficency and now on injections for life:/ my symptoms havnt eased so there now testing for a thyroid problem:( i just want to feel normal again im only 21:/ xx

Hugs hun I can't remember the last time I felt normal. I'm 27 but it makes you feel like an 80yr old doesn't it :(

Hopefully can see what my levels are at and if no change I'm not leaving my doctors without a proper diagnosis.

I originally went to have my thyroid tested a I though that was the cause of my symtpoms but my levels came back fine. I hope that you can get some answers as to why you are still feeling so rubbish hun x

Ive got an appt with my doc next week to discuss this...
I feel i am deficient as my body feels weak n tired even after decent sleep..my legs in particular, feel like jelly sometimes like they cant support me... I might also ask her to test my thyroid aswell
I can totally relate to feeling like you are stuck in an 80yr old body. Ive never been the lazy type and not having any energy to get on with my day is starting to get to me.

Hugs hun its so hard isn't it. I hope your doctor is helpful with your concerns.

Mine refuses to take me seriously. Says my symptoms can't be due to my b12 prescribed me more iron and folic acid and told me to go back to her after a month. So next week I shall be having yet more bloods and a battle on my hands to convince her to treat me as b12 deficient my memory is getting worse as the weeks go by :( x

Do you know what your b12 levels are?

Yea I got a copy of my results from last year and last month. Can't remember them off the top of my head but they were under the normal range last year and only just above the lower end of normal last month.

Doctor fobbed me off said my tiredness was down to my iron (even though that's ok now) and my memory loss was down to beig a mum. Feel so deflated by it.

Going for more bloods this week and further tests as she's adamant it's not my b12 causing my symptoms.

How did you get on at the doctors? X

I stil havent had my blood test. My docs surgery is useless!!

Try the betteryou b12 boost spray. Its expensive at about ten pounds but the sprays last about a month ... Even if ur not deficient but it sounds like you are... B12 gets stored so you cant really overdose on it.

aww sorry to hear ur both feeling rubbish, my lowest reading was 175 which i believe is very low, im on vit b12 injections for life now but tbh there not making a huge difference at all im still experiencing the horrible symptoms the main one exhaustion:( its so hard living with this yet no one understands:(

Yes 175 is pretty low... Ive heard anything below 200 is a deficiency according to most docs but if its below 400 its worth supplementing anyway even though they dont really class it as a deficiency

Sometimes supplements don't work if you suffer from something called pernicious anemia which is one of the causes of b12 deficiency and til I can get a proper diagnosis I don't want to mess with my levels iykwim.

Sorry to hear the injections aren't helping mummyto3bubbas. My levels aren't far of yours (last ones were around 180/190).

Feeling like a rubbish mummy at the moment :( ' so tired that I can't get out of bed in a morning so my daughters go and play with my eldest son til my body wakes up properly. It shouldn't be like that :( just wish my doctor would take me seriously. X

I am another with vitamin b12 deficiency. My iron is also very low (around 5 atm). It is awful with the tiredness :hugs:

Hugs Tasha sorry to hear that hun. It sucks doesn't it :( I had more bloods taken this week get the results Tuesday see my doctor Friday. Sick of going round in circles with it all. She's ordered more bloods to test for other things so hopefully something will show and I can get some sort of diagnosis as its driving me batty. x

Ive got my blood test today.. Hopefully should get my results by friday. I just feel tired all the time ..its gettin quite annoyin as ive got the motivation to do stuff but physically i feel like i cant without it affectin me one way or another!

Hi everyone I'm new here but have a 3 month old and was just diagnosed with b12 deficiency / pernicious anemia. My b12 was 221 (low but not deficient) it was only after they tested my methylmalonic acid and homocysteine levels both of which were sky high did the dr realize I was b12 deficient. I guess what I is that your dr can't just look at the b12 levels alone. This is my third baby and I am 37. The only way I was diagnosed was my baby's newborn screen blood test kept showing a deficiency. Since I am breast feeding him and had low b12 then he had low levels as well. We had to give him b12 shots daily for a month until the drs figured out that I was the problem. His shots stopped and mine began. It has been one month and is feel like a new person. I did not realize how bad I felt. Sorry I keep rambling on, all this to say don't stop if your dr doesn't listen! Change drs and get yourself help. There is a whole Facebook group for PA that has really helped me figure this out.

I will have my docs check that once i get my results for b12

Hugs I'm glad to hear that both you and your baby have been treated and that you are starting to feel better. I think I am on the facebook group that you mention.

How did you get on hun? I feel exactly like you. There is so much I want to do but can't physically do it. I had 2 days this week where I had sudden bursts of energy so I crammed as much housework in as I could and took my kids out somewhere nice. I regretted it on the days that followed as I was twice as exhausted :(

Got my results last week b12 has risen slightly into the 200 range. Folic acid is up to 50 and my iron levels have risen too. Symptoms still persist though :( Missed my doctors appointment as my stupid brain forgot about it so hopefully get in to see her tomorrow. x

My idiot doctor tested everythin that could cause tiredness apArt frm b12 even though thats what i specifically asked for! So annoyed. Havent been able to get another appt. these past few days been terrible, feelin weak almost like im gna pass out. Went to out of hours to see someone but all anyone can say is get gp to do blud test cs everythin else looks fine!! Which is good news .. Hope dey can fit me in nxt week!!
