I don't know what to do. I'm just so damn embarrassed about it. My pelvic floor has been shot to buggery since I gave birth to Alexander last year. I did my pelvic floor exercises but it never gave me a lot of strength back to my bladder. Now, pregnant with #4, every time I cough, sneeze, laugh or even when I just relax, my bladder springs a leak. It's embarrassing, it's degrading, it's isolating and I feel really dirty. I'm terrified it's going to happen in public. I go to bed at night with a rolled up towel between my legs so I don't wet the bed at night. What can I do after I give birth for long term effects? I don't really fancy using incontinence liners for the rest of my life. :( I just don't know what to do.

Oh I have to squeeze in on every sneeze and it doesn't always work  and laughing I have to cross my legs, it's so bad.

I'd imagine it could be worse in pregnancy but I'm not sure.

I would speak to the MW though if it's so bad for towels? Would some Tena not be better? x

Hey darlin didn't want to read and run, I wasn't even pregnant when my Husband made me laugh and I p*ssed myself right there on the bedroom floor, mortified was an understatement, I couldn't imagine it in public, though I do struggle to cough / sneeze (I didn't do a pelvic floor in any of my 2 pregnancies), Have u considered putting a pad on? or some tenna lady knickers? Then no one has to know about the mishaps but you :hugs: https://www.incontinencechoice.co.u...MIooyihrL11gIVsxbTCh305gFNEAQYASABEgI14_D_BwE

I never had an issue with DS1 or DS2 after birth - or during pregnancy for that matter. Control with DS3 during pregnancy wasn't a problem either. But I did my pelvic floor exercises so often for about 12 weeks and it never gave me the control I used to have. And it's just gotten worse this pregnancy. I wonder if the more pregnancies the more likely it is to get worse? But I see my midwife next week so will speak to her about something. I generally sleep in a t-shirt at night and no underwear as they just ride up during the night and pads don't seem to do the job as well as I hoped because they shift. :nope:

OMG, I wish crossing my legs would work for me. :haha: It doesn't help at work that everyone are right nut jobs so it's hard NOT to be entertained and in fits of laughter. :haha: But I worry about peeing on the floor too.

Men. :dohh:

I don't use pads for the same reason I don't use them during a period because they tend to move and just make the situation worse. But I have found a few incontinence panties from the pack I purchased when I had Rotovirus. I would often loose control of my bowels every time I was sick and got fed up cleaning the bathroom floor that I invested in them for just that reason. :) So I'm using them for now and although I still feel gross, I don't feel embarrassed about being wet or smelling like pee. Don't want to be doing this long term though so I will be voicing with my midwife. My pelvic floor is just shot and I don't expect I am ever going to have the control I used to have. But this I have decided is my last pregnancy. The bladder weakness just brought my moral and excitement down so much that I can't (and won't) put myself though a 5th pregnancy. I'm at the point where I just want to have this baby now and I feel really selfish for thinking like this.

Look into seeing a pelvic floor physiotherapist (also sometimes called a women's health physiotherapist), specifically one trained in hypopressive exercises. They should be able to help at least improve your situation if not correct it entirely. Doing just kegals won't be enough, you need to combine kegals with hypopressive exercises. I had a prolapsed bladder, rectum, and uterus after the birth of my son and the hypopressives made an enormous difference after just two weeks.

I understand from a friend who is in Canada that NZ and Canada have a very similar health care system. So if that be the case, is something my GP could send a referral letter though to? Willing to do anything!

i think it happens to us all there is medication you can take depending on what the gp suggests

In Canada we don't need a referral to see a physiotherapist, we can just make an appointment directly. So I guess you would either have to ask your GP or call around to physiotherapy clinics and ask them what the protocol is.
