Hi, after some advice.

I am meant to be having a c section. But lots i am concerned over, so looking at other options also.

Another option is for me to be induced. But after having 2 nightmare inductions in the past, the only way this will happen is by the hospital giving epidural before they start to induce.

I have never had epidural, and am quite concerned by most birth stories i've seen that have had epidural involved, have ended up with a more complicated delivery, ending in forceps/venthose delivery at the best.

Is there anyone here that has been induced and had epidural? What has been your experience if so??

Hi!

My LO was born in February. I was induced at 39 weeks because of pre-eclampsia. I started the petocin at 7pm and by 2am really hadn't made much progress, so they broke my waters. The contractions were immediately awful, so I got an epidural right away. I felt nothing after that. At 5am, a nurse came to check on me and freaked out because LO's head was about to come out. I pushed for about an hour and LO was born a little after 6am. I had second degree tears and hemorrhaged, but ultimately, everything was fine and LO is healthy. I wouldn't induce if I didn't have to, but my induction/epidural experience was fine!

I was induced at 41 weeks, and opted for the epidural at only 3 CM. I have zero negative effects from the epidural, and was able to still shift around and move my lower body to a certain extent. It just removed the pain completely. So I got to sleep through the night while my body progressed and I had plenty of energy to push. Interventions or C-section was never mentioned. I was up and walking within an hour of the birth, and have had no effects postpartum from it either. :flower:

I was induced...I was in small labor before I went in anyways but it was so slow they still induced. I got the epidermal at 3 cent. I would not do it without. So painful. But it wore off at 9 centimeters for me. So either way was kinda pointless. I did have to have vaccume....but that was because she was stuck in pelvis...and not breathing. It was bad but nothing to do with epideral.

Late to the party again! But in case you still are wondering.... I had both my sons with an epidurral. I had NO complications for me or baby and I remember everything perfectly. 10 and 12 years later I remember the look on their face when they came out! I was able to push effectivly (DS1 I pushed for 45 min, DS2 I pushed for 2 min) and not long after I was up and walking around. With DS1 the cord was wrapped around his neck so tight that they had to push him back in to cut it off! I don't think I could have endured that without an epidurral! (and it had nothing to do with the eppidurral, it would have been that way either way) And I got a funny story for the rest of my life! LOL The Kool Aid Man Story.... LOL

I was induced at 40+4 with pre eclampsia. I labored from 4pm until about 2am, when I got an epidural. I started pushing at 6:45am, and she was out at 7:20am, no problem! Was totally good, no interventions. Everything went very well!

Epidurals and induction do increase the risk of intervention but if your only other option is a CS then that is automatic mayjor intervention. There are still lots of women who have inductions and epidurals who have a fine experience with no problems.

I was induced at 40+3. Dilated to 3cm. Pitocin at 2am, mild contractions. Dr broke my water at 7:30am. I was dilated to 5cm. Got an epidural then. I could feel my contractions as pressure, not pain. Pushed for 20-30 minutes. DD born at 1:07pm. No complications at all.

I was induced at 39 weeks, labored for 9 hours before getting the epidural, ended up having a 30 hour labor. I still have NO regrests, glad we induced, very minor tears, etc. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Yes I had the drip induction with epidural. Actually I. Had it resited twice as the epi failed on one side. It was horrendous from start to finish. It was impossible to push effectively and we had emergency forceps with haemorrhage and second degree tear. That was my first pregnancy. Might be different for a third timer.

I was induced at 39+6 as my waters went while at home, and I had group B strep, and I hadn't started contracting. I received my first dose of antibiotics at about 1pm and by the time I got back to the hospital, I was having contractions 5 minutes apart. I probably could have avoided the induction meds but received my first dose of those at about 8pm that night. I received the epidural between 7-8cm (I think between 1-2am or so) and I could still feel contractions when I needed to start pushing. I pushed for 2hrs and I received a minor episiotomy (and didn't tear beyond the cut), and my daughter was born with no other interventions just after 5am.

I am SO grateful I got the epidural because of the episiotomy and the stitching afterward!!! Rather than gripping the bed in agony after my daughter was born, I could just relax and be with my family!!!
