So every brand of formula other than Nestle (Gerber in the US) gives DD diarrhea and gas or makes her reflux worse. The problem is she really doesn't like the taste of the Nestle Good Start. She really likes Similac advance, but it is so hard on her tummy (oddly the Similac Sensitive is even worse!). She's gotten really bad lately with refusing her bottles. We are having days were she will only take 12 oz.

So today I tried mixing 2 scoops Good Start and 1 scoop Similac in a 6oz bottle, and she happily drank the whole thing. Is there any harm in mixing brands together like that? I just want to make sure she is eating enough! And I am hoping if she just has a bit of the Similac mixed in it won't be as hard on her stomach.

I'm not exactly sure, but they are all pretty much the same except some are more gentle. I can't imagine it unsafe but I could be wrong

I would keep mixing for a bit and see if you can drop the similac in a couple of weeks. I would rather mix and her eat then not mix and her start losing weight or become dehydrated.

It's fine to mix.

I've mixed them, everythig was fine. Have you tried warming the bottle a little more? That worked for my baby. He'll eat anything if it's almost hot.

Yeah, that's what I figured, but wanted to make sure!!!

I've tried warming....sometimes it helps, but most of the time not. Sometimes if I do something different I think it is just enough of a distraction to trick her into drinking, but she usually stops after a couple ounces. :dohh:

Gerber is a bit more easily digested for babies than other US brands if I remember correctly and Similac has a crapload of sugar and is much sweeter than other brands.
Seems like the perfect mix lol :)

Nothing wrong with it, I've mixed two different brands (Enfamil and Good Start) to transition lo and she was fine. At lo's dr. appt. yesterday I told her I was mixing the Good Start Gentle with their Soothe just to transition to the Soothe and use up what I had left of Gentle and that lo was actually doing great on the combination lol. She told me it was fine and also told me I was the second mom that day that told her she was using a formula "concoction" that was working out for baby but that mom was combining two different brands.

Sounds like a plan to me, go with it :)

The Similac Sensitive really turned me off because the first ingredient was corn syrup solids or something like that...but I tried it because nothing was working for DD, and it was worse on her tummy than the Similac Advance! But that's probably why she likes the taste better, it's probably a lot sweeter!

Was it from the US? I saw that when we were in the States their ingredients included corn syrup but not anything I bought in Canada.

Corn syrup solids is the first ingredient in Enfamil's formulas also. :p

Then why does Enfamil taste like butt?
You should try Similac Alimentum. My son is on it. It smells and tastes like rotten fish with sugar on top. lmao

Isn't it funny how formula tastes like garbage but babies love it, then when you try to feed them delicious fruits they turn their noses up at it? Wtf?

LOL I never had the guts to taste formula :haha: They all stink though I think :p I do have to say though that the Gerber doesn't smell AS bad, not as strong anyway.

Yeah, I saw on here that those hypoallergenic ones smell and taste absolutely horrid so when dr. suggested we put lo on one when Zantac wasn't working for her reflux I was like, Ummm, lets try Gerber's Soothe first please :haha: Thank GOD it worked and she does fantastic on it  because I'm really sensative to smells. I'd be gagging trying to feed my baby lol.

Liesje, I did buy some Similac Sensitive in the US, but also bought a tin in Canada....not sure which one I checked the ingredients on though....

Nicoleoleole, DD was on Alimentum for her first month or so. She was born a few weeks early, and lost too much weight and wasn't gaining, so she was on Alimentum for a while to rule out allergies. That stuff is horrific. Not only would I gag at the smell of each bottle, but it made her poop smell terrible! Not to mention it costs an arm and a leg (you can only get the ready to drink tins in Canada, not the powder). Yet she would drink it, no problem.

Similac sensitive tastes awesome, I'd drink it if I could lol

And I know! Apparently my son has an allergy to corn syrup, so he can only get the ready to feed of it (powder has corn syrup but RTF doesn't). The powder tastes way worse than the RTF btw. Didn't think it was possible, but it is...
And yes, he poops like 8 times a day, super loose, nasty old man farts that can clear a room out.
We qualify for WIC, so luckily I am able to get enough formula to last almost the whole month with a prescription. Not sure if I could afford $300/month for formula!

WIC stands for Women Infants and children I believe.
It's a government funded program that allows mothers to get checks for a certain amount of formula a month, 8 is the limit for the alimentum I'm almost positive and Gerber is 10 cans a month.

Also when the child reaches age, they give you checks for baby food too.

Also, give the mothers checks for milk, bread, juice and a few other items.

You guys are lucky, we get none of that and our formula is twice as much :(
