I was diagnosed with gestational hypertension about a month ago and since then I've taken lobetalol and my bp has been nor al since taking it.

I saw my consultant last week (consultant led for high Bmi and MS) he's advised induction for this Thursday. I'm quite apprehensive tbh my gut feeling is I don't want to be induced.
My baby is fine when monitored, happy and moving normally.
I had a failed sweep today, my cervix being posterior and closed.all these factors makes me believe my body and my baby aren't ready yet.

I did have an induction with ds 17 years ago which went well and I had him within 4 hours but for some reason I feel uneasy about this one.

What I'm trying to ask is... Would you refuse induction given the factors I listed above? Or am I just stupidly going against my consultant advise?

Easier said then done when I don't have this problem but if I was managing it, it was under control and bub was fine I would be inclined to wait a bit longer and just keep a close eye on things, I agree with you, it sounds like you're body isn't at all ready yet. Good luck to you x

My first pregnancy I got induced because Dr said it was leading to pre e. I didn't ask much questions, just said okay and it was done.

This pregnancy, my blood pressure was fine until 32wks and I'm now on labatelol to help bring it down a bit, and my protein in my urine is slowly increasing as well. At my Dr appt today my Dr said she would recommend inducing me by 36 wks to prevent me from getting sick cuz it looks like its heading towards pre e again. Everything with the baby is healthy and she is estimated to be 6 lbs 13 oz already and I'm only 34wks.

I said to my husband, what if my blood pressure and everything is the same next week, and I could have kept baby in longer? He said the Dr probably knows a bit more then they are telling you and can see your levels rising, so if she thought you could last longer then 36 wks, she probably wouldn't have told you to get induced.

I'm assuming your at your due date since you had a sweep? Do you have protein in your urine? I think you should talk to your Dr more about the reasons he wants to induce you, and maybe then you will feel better with whatever you decide.

My Dr said the reason why blood pressure goes up in pregnancy is cuz the placenta is trying to give more to the baby, and it affects the moms organs when blood pressure rises so its important to control it. Yours is controlled with medication so maybe ask your Dr about the reasoning for induction, it seems you don't have a clear answer.

Thanks for replying.

I'm 40+1 today and no protein in urine, everything is fine.

I'm not seeing another doctor until I go in for induction. I do have questions I could do with being answered not sure who to ask now apart from google which horrifies me lol

Have you decided what to do? There are some cases where induction is a good idea but some doctors are very induction happy and tend to way over use it IMO so I would at least insist that you get to speek to someone about it first. It doesn't really sound like your case is an emergency.

I did have boarderline BP , a large baby and went 10 days overdue. I was told that I 'must' go in gor an induction but I didn't agree with getting an induction just because of boarderline numbers on a chart. I waited and believe it was the right choice.

Thankfully I went into labour naturally the day after I started this thread :)
