Hi just wondering if anyone did this and if so did it help?

I personally haven't but I know someone who did and for them it didn't work. Their son is now 18 months and unfortunately has a lot of problems with allergies and does not like textured foods at all so they struggle to give him a good diet. I'm sure it works for some people but I think you should consider what damage may be caused before you go ahead with it. I don't know much about reflux itself so unfortunately can't offer you much more advice.

Thanks. Xx it's just some docs recommend it and he has started waking hungry at mt which he didnt used to do. Hr also is heading for 40 oz some days but he genuinely.only eats when hungry. I see a specialist doc tues so they will tell memore. Just wanted some hands on experiences ;-) thanks for answer

A specialist will definitely be able to give you some better advice. Just be aware that weaning early can bring its own problems when you are considering what to do but I'm sure the specialist will talk to you about what they are. Also don't let night wakings effect your decision because formula or breast milk is much more calorific than any food you can give at that age so solids are unlikely to fill lo up for longer than milk. Babies just go through stages with sleep and weaning is unlikely to effect that. Good luck with whatever you decide x

Thanks cheza. I think he is hungry enough for food but not quite ready for it. Im just afraid il over feed him with milk. Thanks for ur replies xx

I weaned my DD at 18 weeks due to reflux for her it helped but she wasn't a great milk drinker either. we started off very slowly introducing one fruit or veg at a time.

Thanks Anna. Doc said I should and use milk thickener even though he has comfort milk.
I'm gonna thicken milk tomoro and do food next week all going well. Thanks for replies x

I started to wean with some purees at 16 weeks. He was not gaining weight so we added one jar of baby food a day. He's 14 months old now and is a late teether but does eat ok. I wish he would eat more textured foods but he's getting there. No allergies.

I started weaning early due to reflux and again my daughter isn't a big milk drinker. It hasn't caused any issues. She only on veg still even after 6 weeks. i cant wait to move on to finger foods and more veriaties at 6 months in 3 weeks. I think their are lots of arguments about weaning early. Some experts say its beneficial to do it early whilst others say it isn't. Go with your instincts. It's your desition at the end of the day. My friend weaned her two kids very early and they eat everything and anything.

Yep another early weaner here.

Lo was never a good milk drinker (comfort milk with gaviscon), weight gain hadnt been an issue but consultant advised starting early.

We just used porridge made with her own milk (minus the gaviscon) for the first few weeks as it was purely about thicker food not a diet requirement then moved onto puree veg/fruit etc.

This far down the line she is doing fine, no allergies no real problems and eats fairly well for having no teeth but much prefers spoon fed and im assuming thats because we did wean early and had to spoon feed that she is just used to it that way.

Good Luck with whatever you do.

Yep. Weaned dd1 slowly from 17 weeks to help with her reflux and it did. She now eats fine. She didn't move onto lumps easily but we got there.

I'll be doing the same with dd2 as her reflux is even worse. We have to use gaviscon for every feed as even one without caused more to come up and will then take a few feeds to settle down again. She's been on it since 5 weeks and i'd like to get her off it asap.

I will learn from dd1 though and offer finger foods from 6 months. Will be easy to do as I batch make dd1's meals from scratch and freeze in portions so I can just put some extra in and give dd2 some of dd1's.

Do what you think works. I really wanted to do BLW this time but feel she needs to start before six months so will try and do a bit of both.

We weaned from 17 weeks, at his peak LO was taking 49oz (7x 7oz bottles) in 24 hours, he also had undiagnosed reflux. HV & GP refused to believe me as he had no weight gain issues, but that's another story!

We started with purées but followed LOs cues, by 21 weeks we were on rough chopped foods and haven't looked back since. He's now 16 months and will eat anything and everything put in front of him!!

I say go for it, your LO will soon let you know if they're not ready for solids :)

We weaned at 18 weeks for sickness on the advice of my sons surgeon and honestly, it didn't help, he's still sick now at 9 months! At first he was a very fussy eater and would only eat veg purees or porridge, but now he'll eat anything and really enjoys his food, I wish I'd waited a little longer though as like I say, it didn't do anything to stop him being sick personally.
