Anyone taken Cefalexin during pregnancy?

Hello! :wave: I went to the doc today because I was having a few bladder issues, and she tested my urine with a dip stick that indicated 'a couple of white blood cells'. So combined with the symptoms she said it could mean something like an infection is irritating my bladder, so she prescribed Cefalexin 500mg 2 times a day for 1 week. She also posted off my urine for testing and said to phone on Monday to hear the result which will tell me if the antibiotics is correct or not.

I then had a quick look online and saw this link, which worried me a little.

Has anyone else taken Cefalexin during pregnancy and had no problems? Obviously doc wouldn't have prescribed it if it was unsafe, but the info on the link put some worry in my mind! xx

Hello. I have a lot of bladder infection issues and.so far I have been on cefalexin 4 times this.pregnancy and a few in my past pregnancies. Both my daughters are perfect and my son is also very healthy so far. I'm currently on 500mg 4 times a day for 5 days. I wouldn't worry about it to much.

i've been on it four times this pregnancy and so far from all scans everything is fine so I'm not too worried

A bladder infection that gets really bad can cause premature labour or an infection that affects the baby. Personally I think thats much worse. Doctors wouldn't prescribe them unless you really needed them.

I was on it recently, no probs afaik and all the info I found implied it was safe.

I was on it at the start of my pregnancy and everything has been fine so far

I hope not, im on cefelexin 500mg 3 times a day for a UTI, baby seems to be okay though?
