I'm thinking about renting a hospital grade pump. My little Medela harmony isn't cutting the mustard, and a friend let me try her mini and it wasn't very effective.

I just got DD weighed today and she's dropped a percentile. I feel like my supply is dropping so I want to build it back up, and get emergency supplies in my freezer!

Anyone tried any of the hospital pumps? If so which ones and what did you think?

I have a medela symphony. Everytime i pump after feeding i feel my supply increasing. The suction feels strong but gentle and is quiet. I love it so much I bought one. I rented one for a month through my insurance but they stopped covering it. Rent was $80/month so I decided to buy a used one on eBay for about $800. I called medela to check that the serial number was a personal owned unit and was not a stolen rental (about half the ones on eBay are rentals and not supposed to be sold, even people with 100% feedback). Also it had low hours (these can go 5000 hrs before servicing) and was still under warranty (checked with medela).

I also used a medela symphony in hospital. It was fantastic. I'm a bridesmaid at an adults only wedding and my mum is having lo for 3 days. I'm hiring a symphony from my local sure start centre. Free hire, just £12 for some of the parts x

stupid question alert: does a hospital grade pump simply mean one they use in hospitals? i used one when LO was in hospital but i dont remember what it was :( it was good though FWIW

Hospital grade has a stronger and long lasting motor that can be used by multiple women without contamination. Usually these are heavier pumps. They're double pumps and are designed to increase supply (not sure how). Common ones are the medela symphony and ameda elite. There are even fancier one like the ameda platinum.

ah thankyou. the one i used was a single so mustnt have been hospital grade. sorry op, i havent been any help x

I use an Ameda Elite. It works well and fast. I prefer it over my medela handpump because I can pump both boobies in 5 minutes compared to 20 minutes by hand.

I used rented the medela symphony for 4 months and liked it very much! I was able to pump a lot of milk in the earlier days. I loved the suction.

Ok, i've gone for it and ordered the Symphony from Medela direct. Should be here tomorrow :) Only renting, I will let you ladies know how it goes!
