I exclusively pump for my LO but am looking to move to formula in the next month or two so obviously looking at all the options. I like the idea of the hipp range, but not sure about making the bottles up as its very different to normal formula. Maybe I should just stick to a normal formula and premake and put them in the fridge till needed. I really don't know. Seems so complicated! Help needed!

Hiya. I moved lo onto hipp due to wind issues with aptamil. We started just before the change to combiotic. I was initially really wary of making it up with 40 degree water but after LOADS of research started to feel ok with it. My baby loves it and his poos are great and he has much less wind. I now put cooled boiled water in my bottles at the start of the day and measure formula into pots. I then warm the water when needed and add the powder in. I make sure lo has it immediately and discard anything after an hour - very rare as I have a greedy chops!

Hipp have assured DoH that their production is as safe as can be and that it's ok to make up with cooler water.

You have to go with something you're comfortable with. :flower:

Hi i use it and my lo goes between that and breast milk just fine with no problems. I make it by leaving the water in the bottles then adding powder when needed and it seems ok that way x

So you use room temperature water that has been previously boiled? This will make my life a lot easier, but obviously concerned about the formula not being sterile and all that.

Yes cooled boiled water. I used to warm the water back up then add the powder but now she prefers it colder i just add it to the room temp water.
I know what you mean about it being sterile but a lot of people seem to do it this way now, i've not had any problems doing it and it is a lot easier this way, so i guess you just have to do whatever you are comfortable doing.

I would trial and error some ready made cartons of each brand with your LO. Mine is breastfeed with the odd formula feed now and then. He seems to like Aptamil best even though I think it is vile and Hipp tastes nicer. But obviously if he drinks apatmil better then that is what I buy!

Good idea although the hipp rtf cartons are different to the powder. :growlmad: I have a few cartons of hipp and c&g so might just try those slowly next week and see how we get on. For the first few weeks it will only be one or two bottles of formula a day so will probably use rtf for a while before moving over to powder full time

Hi
Sorry gonna jump in and be nosey why are rtf cartons different from the powder on hipp. I use both and they have the same packaging. Thanks. X

The rtf hipp ones don't have the new live prebiotic cultures in them because of the way it's made so it's not exactly the same as their powder even though the packaging is the same

Yeah, it's because in order to make it sterile in the carton so you can buy it off the shelf it needs to be heat-treated like UHT milk is. The temp needed would kill off the friendly bacteria in the formula so they can't put it into the RTF.

We've been using the Combiotic for a few months now and I'm not worried about the temp of the water as long as you use it straight away. In the beginning I was a bit concerned but then I remembered that the WHO guidelines do say that you can use room temp water/safe tap water if you're feeding right away and not leaving it to sit around

We just use the normal Hipp, LO was fine when we switched from bf x
