Hi All

My LO is two weeks' old and already suffering with constipation, not fun!

We are currently using Aptamil 1 powder and LOs poos are hard and yellow and she is very unhappy and in pain a lot trying to pass them, screaming, going red, grunting etc.

However, I gave her a feed using a ready made carton earlier, and she then passed a much softer poo, typically just as I was at the docs to find out what to do about her constipation!

So, my question is this, have any of you found that the powdered aptamil caused constipation, but the ready to use cartons didn't? If so, does anyone know why this might happen?

My GP has suggested I stick with the cartons and some cooled boiled water for now, but I am tempted to just switch to comfort milk. What do you think?

Thanks!!! x

my LO suffers constipation too and when she's struggling we give her a feed of the carton pre made milk and it gets thibgs shifted.
We try and give her a few sips of water a few times a day to keep it soft and it seems to be working. We didn't want to swap formulas until we had too as we had a lot of formula problems with my son.

I don't know why the carton stuff makes the poo softer but it does lol x

the ready made cartons are definitely easier to digest for them. I found when we switched from ready made to powder his constipation was A LOT worse. we used the ready made for the first 2 months.

if your LO is constantly constipated I'd really suggest switching to Aptimil Comfort, this is what we did and it was such a good move. he never had constipation after that (actually I lie he got a bit of constipation when we started weaning)

I was told that the cartons contain a preservative that acts as a mild laxative and this isn't present in the powder. If it works, I'd stick to it!

Thanks ladies. I decided to switch to comfort yesterday as we didn't get much sleep Friday night. Already she seems more settled, hope it continues!!

My dd suffers with constipation she on comfort and I give her cooled boiled water and a table spoon of prune juice and it works wonders, it will take a week or so for comfort to kick in but u have done the right move

we used 1 bottle of comfort the rest no.1 and that sorted it for us but appaerntly you arent supposed to...
