are c-sections recommended over vaginal birth if you have SPD?

Originally, I wanted a water birth. This kinda went out the window at 12 weeks when I started suffering from (what I thought at the time was) lower back pain. The pain is now settling down into specifically my hips and tailbone, classic SPD symptoms. I'll be seeing a midwife when we land in the UK and will get the low-down on whether I actually have SPD or not. My doc here isn't phased by it at all, just tells me to rest and take paracetamol for the pain

I read on another one of these threads that c-sections are offered to women with SPD, rather than them having to ask for it - is this truly the case? Is there a case for a vaginal birth as opposed to a c-section specifically regarding SPD (ie, does it go away faster, etc)?

Very curious. Now that the option of a c-section is on the table, it's one I'm carefully considering, given our situation.

Input greatly appreciated.

ill be stalking this. i had horrible spd last pregnancy, was waiting for crutches at 29 weeks, first fitted for a support belt at 20 weeks( although they dont make them small enough!) I obv never got past 29 weeks and after my c section the spd pain was instantly gone.
Now this time i am obviously hoping for a longer pregnancy, but seriously worried as my spd is worse this time already :( i will get the option of a c sec due to a previous one, but i just dont know what is better ( have a feeling i will opt c sec, ill be in agony by 34 weeks ( decsion time) and cant imagine having to push a baby thru a v painful pelvis.....but i may have a moment of madness and try :)

I am suffering with SPD and my mum also had awful SPD with her last pregnancy 5yrs ago she was on crutches from 28 weeks and went into labour at 38 weeks. The Dr did not give her the option for a csection but we were told by the physiotherapist she should have never had a vaginal birth based on the severity of her SPD as a result she was bed ridden for 1 yr after and still has issues with walking now due to the position she labored in.

I wish they would take it more seriously as they did not think my mum would walk again for at least 3 yrs she had to persevere and bare the pain of retraining her muscles and joints to walk again.

Hey :hugs: poor thing I had severe SPD and was on crutches and needed a support band and belt too. The physio told me in severe cases you would need a section but they were against it just for spd alone. I ended up with a section for other reasons but the SPD was not one of them , although if I had not had pre eclampsia or given the option for a C-section I would have fought for one as the pain was so intense it hurt to get in and out of bed or move.

I would ask but if you want a vaginal birth then you can try these exercises and also yoga is recommended so you do not have to have a section even with severe spd as i was not offered that option. not for spd that is

I've been told they don't offer c sections for SPD alone. I've also been wondering if maybe a c section would be best as i've known some people with SPD who have had them due to severity of their SPD. I've also been told water births are great for people with SPD and am hoping to have one myself if I can. What makes you think you can't have a water birth with SPD?

I was told that it would be more difficult because of the squatting position, even though your weight is offset by the water some. Though that wouldn't make it "impossible" the fact that my local hospital has a bath, not a round pool for water births (and I'm not petite) would do.

Urgh! So many different stories, and I've not got a midwife here to quiz about options yet!

How about a birthing centre? I'm thinking of going there instead of the hospital, they're bound to have birthing pools and they're experienced in water births too, even women with SPD. Although I would discuss it with your local birthing unit beforehand.
