Are preemies meant to be long and lean?

My baby was born 8 weeks early and he definitely looked chubby towards the end b of hid nicu stay. As he got older he started losing the chubbiness and grew tremendously in length instead. Now he looks long and lean. He's 8 months and weigh 16.6 lbs. His length last month was 28 inches. He looks even taller now. His length was in the 50th percentile last time for his actual age but his weight was only in the 10th percentile. His weight will probably never catch up with his height thats why he has the skinny look. Is it true that preemies rarely get chubby? My baby has big thighs and a double chin but his torso and arms are small.

My daughter is long and skinny too. She's around 15 pounds and 27". Her weight was around the 10th percentile and her length was 25th. That was 2 months ago.

My cousins preemie is only 8 weeks adjusted (born at 29 weeks, 3lb 9oz) and now 13.5 pounds. He's chubby.

I think ganetics has more to do with it. Niamh was born at a massive weight for her gestation but soon slimmed down. She needs age 2-3 for length but she can still fit in 12-18 in the waist.

Depends on the baby I think. My guys is more on the long and lean end but some friends we met while in the NICU's LO is short and a cute little chubster.

My girl was only 4 Weeks early so a later premie so dunno if she counts... She was long and skinny when born (her skin was like empty bags) now she's really chubbed out, but she's still really long, she has more of a long body than long legs though...

My DF was a premie (born 8 weeks early), and he is um...NOT skinny.

My DD was born at 35 weeks weighing 4lb14 shes now 27 months and weighs 25lbs. She is tall and skinny. can fit into my sons 9-12 month shorts.

It's been awhile since I have been on here, and my baby is still tall and skinny. He is 16.8 lbs now and 9 months old. He is always growing length wise, so his weight can never catch up with his height. I always wanted a chubby a baby, but I dont think thats gonna happen. I keep hoping he would gain a little bit more weight so that it would even out, because I keep getting comments that he's skinny from people. He can fit into 3-6 clothing clothing width wise but the arm sleeves and pants are way too short on him.
