I just came across this underused biblical boys name and I think I'm falling for it! Pronounced "Ace-uh" I think it flows with our son's name Micah.

I'd love some really honest opinions because I fall for names easily and am sometimes blind to the negatives.

I like the pronunciation but I wouldn't know how to pronounce it based on the spelling?

Thanks, that's good to know as it drives me barmy when Micah is called "meek-a"! Although at least they could commiserate with each other over their mispronunciation issues!:haha:

I would pronounce it Ass-ah at first glance, which... isn't very nice. I agree that I like the pronunciation but I really don't care for the spelling. It looks feminine to me and kind of like a typo for Ada.

I no someone that has an Acer, I think its lovely 😃
I'm not keen on the spelling asa, I agree with pp it looks like ass-a.

I like how it sounds and think it goes nicely with Micah. Agree with the other ladies though, I wouldn't have known how to pronounce it if you hadn't said.

I know an Asa, he's about 14 now, i quite like it and I agree it goes well with your other sons name 👍🏻

I don't like it at all. I don't like the sound of it and think it'd always be mispronounced (sorry- know it's not what you wanted to hear!) x

Strange but I've asked sa few people in 'real life' today to compare and they've all pronounced it correctly from reading it!

My first thought was that is was like Azuh, sort of like Asiah without the 'i', hard to explain, but more along the line of Ace-uh and not ass-uh at all. It's a really cool name!

I'm in the UK and would have pronounced it the way you do. I LOVE it! Unusual but doesn't sound made up.

I have to ask though: How do you pronounce Micah?

Its strange because I have always called Micah mee-kah in my head but I actually would have said this one right.

The only issue is I automatically thought girl! Possibly because the spelling is so close to Ava and Ada.

Anyway I think it goes well with Micah and if you love go for it! What does your oh think?

Without reading your post I got the pronouciation correct but I did initially read it as Asda, sorry.

I meant Asia before, like the continent, my phone did something weird!

Still think it's a cool name :-D

I really like it! I was going for ace-uh as pronunciation from the beginning so that helps. It is a bit problematic that a lot of people initially pronounce it assa, more of an issue than Micah getting the meeka pronunciation...

I think it sounds great and it's cute and different and goes really great with Micah!

Thanks everyone, I don't think it's any harder to pronounce than Micah appears to be (although I thought Micah was straightforward until we named him! :dohh:) but it's good to know all the possible issues. Personally I like it more and more each day! OH likes it, and especially likes that Asa in the bible was a descendant of the house of David, and OH is a David so that part is perfect. However he's 100% convinced that this one is a girl (no idea why but he was right with Micah) so only wants to discuss girl names.:haha:
