We had planned on naming our son Brallan... Turns out half our family can't say it. I grew up always having my name mispronounced its Alana said Alayna. To this day I just answer anything that sounds remotely close. But it still bugs me so I didn't want to do that to our child. So we decided on Kent. My parents are convinced this will result in teasing and I should name him darian or Alan instead.

I'm a big geek and this baby and I have been through a lot. I like that I can call him Mr. Kent and he can be my little super man.

So in your opinions ladies is Kent a name that's going to make him be teased?

I think if you love the name you should use it, regardless of spelling or pronunciation issues. Some people just can't spell or have different accents so I think everyone at some point has this issue in their lifetime.
mr. Kent aka little superman is very cute!
I also think Brallan is fine too

I can't think of anything about Kent that would incite teasing. Am I missing something?

I don't think he will be teased for it. There's Kent the place but that's not too bad x

I wouldn't think he'd be teased, but you might get people thinking you're saying "Ken," so if that bothers you, it's something to consider.

I can't see how he'd be teased for Kent. Maybe ask her what exactly she thinks makes it tease worthy? Now I'm curious.

I'm curious as well! I don't see Kent as a name that'd get teasting, or the possible shorter Ken for that matter.

I can't see that he would be teased, I think it's a fairly strong sounding name and love the little super man meaning behind it

I've seen memes online and heard my OH's football buddies use the word "Kent" instead of saying the C-word. I'm not sure if it's a regional thing and is all to do with pronunciation?

Lol oh man! That may be regional. We're both huge sports fans and pretty much everyone in my life is as well, and I've not heard a connotation like that. Unless it's something used in soccer/football (the little black and white ball you kick-sorry I think that's what you guys call football?), but have never heard it used in actual American Football. And we are not soccer fans in the least, so in that aspect I wouldn't know.

I like Kent, and it is so cute that you can call him your little Superman. I can't see why it would be teased, it sounds like the name isn't to their taste so they think other people will feel the same.

Kent like the guy in the simpsons lol cant see how it can really be teased

I know a Kal-el (superman name) and he doesnt get teased but hes only in infants school so doubt theres much teasing anyway and it shortens to Kal... ive known 3 Cal's and a Col and non got teased

To the ladies wondering how a kid could be teased, Superman's secret identity is Clark Kent. I really don't think little kids would tease him about it. It's pretty awesome to be named after Superman I think! It also fits into the whole last name makes a first name thing going on right now. I don't think many people would look into it that much. Probably family just don't like it and are reaching for reasons. Go with what you love :)

Thanks ladies its also a classic 1940's name which goes with our Amelia. I'm very excited about his name I really appreciate the reassurance

I personally know a Kent, he is not teased for his name at all ( he is in his 30's now)

If you like it then go for it! It does make me think of someone saying thr c-word with an Australian accent though. My OH says Kent instead of the c-word every now and then.

I'm not a huge fan but it's a simple name and really unlikely to incite teasing

I cant see why he would be teased at all. Its a shame you cant call him your original name but i am totally with you on the pronounciation thing. My daughters called Soraya...said exactly as it is written (so-ray-a) but everywhere we go no matter what she gets called (so-riya) like psoriasis, it drives me Insane and i cant understand why people pronounce it that way.
So anyway kent is lovely. My friends mum told her daughter she hated the name she had picked for her but she stuck to her guns and now she loves it. They will come around and it will be like he couldnt possibly be cakled anything else. Its your choice. Xx
