My wee boy is only 14 days old.
He is a very hungry baby and we are having problems getting him into a routine with his feeding.
He will take 4oz but fall asleep at about 2oz left in the bottle then we cant get him awake to finish it so then the milk goes to waste and after an hour hes starving again. He gets really unsettled and restless at nights coz of this.
I dont know if this is coz hes maybe needing a thicker milk.
At what age can we put him onto Hungrier Baby Milk?

Thanx

I think u need to speak to your HV about hungry milk. He is doing really well seeing as he is only 2 weeks old, it takes a while for them to get themselves into a feeding routine.

I would also speak to your HV. It does say on the tub you can feed it from birth though x

Personally I wouldn't use hungry milk yet. He is too young to be feeding at regular times anyway. I think you just have to go with it really, when he is a little older and more alert he will probably take more milk at a time.

he is too young to be in a routine yet, i would wait a few weeks and see, its normal at this stage to be feeding every couple of hours and sometimes every hour

sorry hun im not really clear from your post if he is taking 4oz or just 2oz every couple of hours? if it is just the 2oz then thats perfectly normal for around this age, but if he is taking 4oz i would speak to hv x

hungry baby milk probably isnt the answer for him just yet though hun x

I think that hungry baby milk is designed for babies to delay them from weaning to early. Although it does say on the tin that you can give it from birth.
Sounds like he is doing really well for a 2 week old!! :) xx

Yeah he doesnt sound like he needs hungry baby milk. My son at 2 weeks was taking 5oz bottles and was starvign hungry 2 hours later so he had to be put on the hungry baby milk as he was such a big boy and he couldnt get enough milk to sustain him. I would say if he taking 2-3 oz of normal milk then that is good for his age and if he was hungry he would take more in a sitting. Also he may not always be hungry it may be tiredness etc when he is restless. As for night time he will be up and down for quite a few weeks yet!

we started connah on hungry baby milk at around 9weeks old as he did need it,we did speak to HV first though and she advised it x

As above hunny, i would speak to the HV. The problem with hungry baby milk is its heavier so you could find that he may have even less milk at each feed which isnt going to be good. Have you tried him with a dummy when he's crying an hour after feeding? he could just be wanting to suck on something but not actually feed xx

in my opinion my HV is useless told me not to put Niall on hungry baby milk for months but by 3 weeks he was taking 9oz 6 times a day was always starving and very unsettled - by 4.5 weeks i had had enough and out him on hungry milk. he is so content now gaining weight at a wonderful rate and sleeps through the night no probs.

I would give it at least another couple of weeks as the other ladies say he is still V young and getting into his stride before you worry wbout changing his milk, that said you're his mum and if you feel it may help him be more settled and happy you've got nothing to lose

My ds was advised at 4 weeks to go onto hungrier baby milk as he was snaffling all of his bottles and then feeding again an hour later. that was 7 years ago.

Now DD is 3 weeks old and is on hungrier milk and snaffling 5oz every 3 hours. before that she was snaffling just like DS did.

Both children were/are content after changing to the milk that satisfied them more. Its only extra protein n carbs in it to fill your babies up for longer.

if you feel your baby is ready for hungrier milk your instinct will tell you so, but if you dont trust your instinct yet then ask your hv like the other ladies have suggested.

Either way, good luck with what ever you do

My HV said give it once he is having more than 30oz a day of normal milk and then introduce it slowly, i.e. 1 bottle of it for a few days, then slowly increase the amount of bottles. My lo had 1 bottle of it at midnight for 5 nights and now we have just introduced a 2nd for his 8am feed.

Zach was the same at 2 weeks old, he would only take bits of his bottle but he soon sorted him self out! Like someone else said, try a dummy to settle him, i did this with zach and it kept him from eating little and often!

But now im thinking of putting him on hungry baby milk as he drinks between 6 and 8oz every 2-3 hours!

I am thinking Hungry food might be our way forward. Noah is 6 weeks and has stopped going 4 hourly! he's now taking 3-4oz every 2 hours and not settling at night, i feel we have gone backwards.

What do you guys think? Didn't want to start a new thread so sorry for gate crashing Hun!

im thinking my lo may need this but am worried she is way to young for it

My lo has been on hungry babies since 2 wks old hes 5wks now. We started him off on cow & gate hungrier babies but he was just guzzling it and 4oz every 2hrs was doing nothing for him so we decided to put him on sma hungry babies which he goes 5oz every 3-4hrs, 12oz before bed time and sleeps through to 7.30...bliss. The only problem is that it constipates him alot.

jesse was taking 6oz every 2/3 hours by about 2 weeks so we took the decision to put him onto hungry baby milk, the HV told me to go off his weight not his age with how much milk he should be drinking, she said she didnt recomend hungry baby as it can cause constipation but we never ever had a problem with it and jesse was sleeping through by about 8 weeks about 10 til 7 :) xx

oh yeah forgot to mention we use sma hungry baby x
