I don't eat fast food or resturant food. Usually only foods cooked rite in front of me.

Today I was having a huge craving for ice cream (very rare for me) and my mom brought me a mcflurry from McDonald's. I haven't had one since I was a little girl, but it was delicious! I was a very happy pregnant lady after lol

However....... I didn't even think about if the milk they use is pasteurized!! :( I stated to look on the Internet and saw all this crap about listeria and soft served ice cream machines because there not cleaned well!!!

AGH!!!!! Should I be freaking?? :(

Don't worry. There is no way that the milk wouldn't have been pasteurised. It's very hard to buy unpasterurised milk even if you wanted to. McDonald's have high food standards and it's only if the ice cream is standing in the tubes for a while (I.e. overnight) so if it wasn't the first one to come out of the machine that day I really wouldn't be worried. I have a doctorate in microbiology, I'm pregnant and I've had a couple of them :-)
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy x

No, I wouldn't freak out. I personally love soft-serve ice cream and have been eating it occasionally. But, if you want to avoid it altogether, just start "fresh." You can't undo what's been done. Bubs is probably A-OK.

ummm...no. It is a restaurant and soft serve is fine as long as the restaurant is clean...

Thanks! How in the world would I know if it was the first one of the day!! I hope not :(

It's so hard not to worry about everything!

No need to worry in the slightest. I eat them and DQ ice cream and other soft serve all the time. Restaurants have a lot of regulations and standards to meet. You could probably even look up online whether it was pasteurized or not.

it was definitely pasteurized. Raw milk is very uncommon, its always promoted as raw milk and believe me, mc donalds isnt going to use raw milk. Its generally much more expensive and they wouldnt take any chances.

Honestly, I would be surprised if they used fresh milk at all. I assumed it would most likely be some powder that they mix with water and stick it in a machine.

That is the last thing I would worry about.

Thanks girls!!! Your making me all feel better :hugs:

I have had a rough weekend in L&D with contractions and the last thing I need to do is worry about some stupid ice cream!

Just when I think I'm doing everything 'rite' I possibly can, something like this happens! Agh!

I eat them occasionally, there fine don't worry about it, it's safe xx

Lol!! Don't even worry. I had a real Cesar salad at a restaurant the other night that was made with raw egg yolk! I had no clue until later...oh well.

I had m&m mcflurrys all through the first trimester. I craved them! I'm ok and I'm sure you will be too. Listeria is very rare.

im sure you are fine. i eat soft serve all the time and did with my boys too. that is very rare to catch listeria from the ice cream due to their machines and everone uses pasturized milk these days...the milk they get in is same as ours.

Your risk of listeria is so darn low that there is no reason to be freaking out. The listeria breakouts that I've heard of have been VEGGIES and FRUITS. You can't avoid those!

My oh works in a kitchen with s soft serve machine and he says they clean it out so often listeria would be v rare. Macdonalds should have the same strict cleaning process so i really wouldnt worry.
