Hi All,
When i had my blood tests at 16 weeks to check for downs syndrone/spina biffida my midwife called me and said that my results had come back as 'atypical'.
I asked what she meant by this but she couldn't tell my anything as that was all that the lab had said to her.
I was sent for a level II scan (at 17+5) which showed that everything looked ok with baby. I then saw the consultant who told me that my bloods had come back with an abnormal pattern of results and they didn't know what this meant. He then said that abnormal results were more likely to mean that there would be some kind of complication in the pregnancy but they couldn't say what. He arranged for me to go for monthly scans after my 20 week scan to keep an eye on baby and also for fortnightly blood pressure checks (the bp checks were because my bp is bordering on being high and my mum had pre-eclampsia with me).
I know it is a good thing that they are monitoring baby but i am a worried as i don't know what the possible complications could be, if any. I think it makes it worse because I can't feel baby moving yet (although I know this is ok because it is my first and I have an anterior placenta.)
I was just wondering whether anyone else had had atypical results (rather than being told they were high risk or low risk) and whether they went on to have any compliations or not.
Sorry for the long post!!!
