Good morning everyone

I am a British citizen living in Australia but am no longer entitled to free NHS care as a Brit.

On the 4th August I found out my baby had stopped growing and had no heartbeat. I was 11 weeks along but baby was measuring 9w4d. This is my 3rd miscarriage this year and I am devastated. I was still in Australia when I received this news. Later that day I had a phone call from the UK telling me my mum had cancer and had only days possibly a couple of weeks to live so I booked a flight for the 7th and am now in the UK.

I phoned everywhere I could in Victoria to try and book in a D&C before my flight but there was no one able to help me.

I am now in the UK and my mum is in a dreadful state and to keep her spirits up I have let her believe that baby is just fine.

The thing is, there has still been no bleeding or signs that my body will miscarry on its own and I don't know where to go for help. Is there anyone with some advice for me please. I really do not know where to start. I feel so completely useless and pathetic because normally I can sort nothing out but right now I can't seem to think at all.

Please help...

They cant refuse to treat you if you turn up at a hospital. Do you have travel insurance?

Also, you don't actually need a d&c. I had 2 mmc and an ectopic pregnancy and have refused surgical intervention each time and been fine. Just watch for signs of infection.

I'd call 111. Best of luck Hun and I'm so sorry about your mum and your mc. What a horrible time for you

Thanks everyone.

As an Aussie, I don't need insurance as we have a reciprocal health agreement. I want a D&C because with looking after mum and staying with relatives without my husband I am not in a position to leave it to chance. Baby heart stopped beating 3 weeks ago and I am worried about infection etc if I leave it much longer and I really don't want anything to happen unexpectedly say at a funeral or the flight home.

id ring 111 they should be able to get you a gp appointment and the gp should be able to help.
really sorry things are so bad.

Thanks everyone.

Really?

I worked as a travel agent and British citizens travelling to Australia need travel insurance. If we have a reciprocal agreement then surely you get NHS care?

An infection wouldn't come on severely and suddenly. It took me over 5 weeks to pass everything after my 2nd mmc, and I didn't even start bleeding til a month later. I was fine.

As others have advised, I would call 111. They're brilliant for advice :) on top of that, I'm fairly sure you could call a GP surgery or your local hospital and they'd arrange something for you. Before I was entitled to NHS care, I had to have an emergency ultrasound and they were happy to give it to me and they just sent me a bill later.

I don't have advice on where to go for treatment but just wanted to let you know I went through a similar situation last year.

My brother died unexpectedly and shortly after that I had a miscarriage. The bleeding and cramping went on for several weeks before I had the pills and then a D&C to complete it. It's completely overwhelming to have these events happen at the same time and I felt pretty useless too. Hang in there, so sorry you have to deal with these things together.

You should be able to go to your mum's gp and register as a temporary patient as a relative of a permanent patient. I remember my aunt doing that a few years ago when she travelled over from New Zealand.

So,,,,in the end....
I was advised to go to A&E by NHS Direct. I went and spoke to them and they made me an appointment for the Monday to speak to someone in woman's health. On the Saturday before I had the loss and it was bad. I ended up rushed to hospital by ambulance.

In the end I was fine I guess.

I received a form through the post last week from the NHS now I am back in Aus asking for information so they could confirm whether I needed to be billed. I returned it yesterday and will hear in due course I suppose.

Yesterday I found out I am pregnant again. Fingers crossed for this little bean to stick and come home with me in September.

Just read through your post there. So sorry about the time you've had! Congrats on your new pregnancy. Sending lots of sticky dust your way! xxx

Loss number 4 started today.

Its my birthday :cry::cry:
