Hi ladies just wondered if anyone else had been through this. I visited my gp today regarding an elective cersarian due to 2 traumatic births and 2 2nd degree tears and being petrified of giving birth naturally again. He is writing to an obstration (sp) to see what they say. Anyone been in the same situation?

Not sure where you are hun, but I'm pretty sure now that in uk you are entitled to elect for csec if that's what you want... Not 100% sure though.

I had similar experience first time so requested an ELCS I had traumatic non progressing labour first time and was put on drip etc to get things moving for days resulted in 3rd degree tear and retained placenta and DD had maconium aspiration.

This time I was not challenged my consultant was very good and said it was my choice It did become an EMCS anyway due to his position but overall I had a great nonjudgenental prenatal care xxx

Thank you for your replys.
Shezza84uk im based in the uk but i dont really know the rules. With my first birth i was pushing for two hours, they were just about to intervine but i managed to push his head out then he got stuck, changed position then he came but he was very poorly, needed resusitation, he was born with VACTERAL syndrome, cleft lip and platate and some other little things, he was taken straight away for life saving surgery, thankfully all went went and i have a happy little 4 year old. With my second pregnancy i was a nervous wreck from the beginning and had to have counciling to get through the pregnancy. He was born after a slow progressing labour, head delivered but again got stuck, had to be put into the McRoberts manover and thankfully he came but needed resusitation. My babies were 8lb 3 and 8lb 6. Both times i suffered 2nd degree tears which took a long time to heal. So now i am pretty terrified of giving birth naturally.

I am quite interested in this too.. I'm not pregnant yet but I'm really desperate for another child at some point but put off by my first birth (scary emergency forceps in theatre with a huge episiotomy) and, although I'm not 100% whether I'd like an ELCS, I want to know what options I have iykwim?

Here in the UK, the NICE guidelines state that you can request a C-section for non-medical reasons (although, imo, previous birth trauma IS a medical reason) and if, after counselling persuading you not to plus other options offered to you, you still want it then you have the right to be given one. However, I have heard about some ladies being refused one when trying to get one on the grounds of a traumatic birth, but then some ladies get granted them quite easily.. so I'm guessing it depends who you speak to, the hospital etc.. just luck really.

Hopefully it won't be a problem for you and they will be fine with it.. if not, then it might be a case of really putting your point across, and fighting to get your elcs, I think if I was trying to win a case for an elcs next time then I'd really emphasise how the experience ruined my first experience of having a child and parenting, caused awful PND, made me stop breastfeeding etc. I hope you get your elcs. xx

Thanks for your reply tinkerbelle your experience sounds very traumatic too. I also suffered pnd after both babies along with gad and ocd. I'm going to be having some therapy in the next couple of weeks to see if I feel strong enough for a future pregnancy but the issue with fighting for an ELSC weighs heavy on my mind.

Considering your history I cant see why they would refuse, I was prepared for a battle to get the choice so made sure I told them my wishes from booking in appointment with the midwife, she then said she will put me under consultant care based on my history and my request for a Csection.

I was made to go counselling to change my mind with scare tactics about what can go wrong with sections such as bladder injuries etc didn't phase me I just accepted the counselling and at the end stuck to my decision, I think thats the new NHS strategy based on the guidelines my advice is be firm about what you want and do not take no for an answer!

I was told that if the hospital of your choice refuses you can ask to be sent elsewhere. Xx

Hi ladies I just wanted to update my hospital have agreed to an elective cersarian x x
