So finally at 41 weeks, our little lady decided to make an appearance. Slow start to labour, but a much easier experience than with DS!
I woke up in the early hours of Sunday morning (3rd Feb) at 1.30am with soaking PJs, - my waters had broken at 41 weeks. I told DH, had a quick shower and got dressed. I could feel more water coming out and eventually had to get changed again. I rang the hospital for advice, as this was totally different to how labour started with DS! The hospital told me that they wanted to see me that morning, but no great rush and to organise DS first.
We started getting things together to leave the house. Contractions started around 2.20, about 5mins apart, lasting about 30 seconds. They werent regular and were easy to deal with.
After dropping DS off, we got to hospital and had to wait a while to be examined. I was 4cm when they examined me at about 4am. They said to go home because I wasnt far enough on to be admitted. I accepted this, but I didnt want the 25 minute trip home, to have to come back again and be 25 minutes away again. They also said the pool room was currently being used, which was upsetting as I really wanted another pool birth. We decided to wander around the hospital instead. My contractions continued to be 3mins apart, lasting about 40-50 secs. They were getting a bit more uncomfortable, but still fairly easy to breathe through.
At 6.30 and after having regular contractions for 1.5 hours, we went back to the labour ward. They wouldnt admit me they said I couldnt be in established labour yet because I was too calm??! They offered me the use of the bath room to have a bath, so I took that option. Having a bath wasnt my first choice as I knew it would slow things down and I wanted to get this done! I was fed up of having contractions in the hospital corridors though, so I agreed. Sure enough, the bath slowed the contractions right down. We decided to leave at 730 because although I was still contracting, I felt like I wasnt getting anywhere. As were getting ready to leave, someone came to tell me they were getting me a room! The mw examined me again at 8am and I was 5cm. They told me that pool room was now available and they could move me in there once they had prepared it.
At around 9am we were allowed into the pool room. The mw told us that she would fill it when I thought she needed to and told us it would take about 15 minutes to fill. She advised us not to get in yet because it would slow things down. I started on the G+A through contractions, more because I didnt really use it much last time until I was being stitched up and I felt I missed out. I was having a fab time! Some of the contractions were getting painful, but I could handle them fine with G+A; they still werent regular though. We started timing them again at 10 on the advice of the mw, they were about 2-3 mins apart, and lasting 50-60 secs. Around 10.15 I asked the mw to start filling the pool and she left us to it. Contractions were getting painful (lots of g+a!) now, and I thought I was feeling pressure. I told DH that I was going to need to get in the pool very soon. I was a bit out of it on the g+a by now, I insisted that I needed to get in, but it wasn't full yet! DH pressed buzzer, some random nurse(?) came in and hubby told him what was happening. The pool automatically stopped filling (auto shut off when full).
So at 10.30 I got in the pool. It all got a little hazy here. The mw came back, I continued on the g+a and I was definitely feeling pressure. The mw told me not to push, because she didn't want me to tear, and to pant. The thing was, I wasn't pushing! My body was doing it for me. She was telling me she knew it was stingy and not to be scared - it wasn't and I wasn't! Then she said and pick up baby... What baby, I hadn't pushed! But there she was at 1101, pushing stage recorded as 6mins. We had a cuddle in the pool and I fed her, then handed her over to Daddy after about 50 minutes to deliver the placenta.
So Bethany Patricia was born at 11.01am on Sunday 3rd February, weighing 9 lbs at 41 weeks.![Cloud 9 :cloud9: :cloud9:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/cloud9.gif)
