So my son had the tuburcolosis immunisation at 2days old. He's now 5 weeks and 3days and has a massive lump where he had the injection. I know it's normal to get a lump but I think my son's is infected as its got a yellow centre. I'm taking him to the doctors tomorrow but I'm so worried, I don't think I'll be able to sleep. Can anyone put my mind at rest please. Is it a harmless infection? Has your LO's experienced this? Thanks

Thats how the TB injection site goes.
With my daughters, I had her in the bath at around 6 weeks and was gently washing her and it exploded (made an audible sound too) it must've been such a relief for her because she never cried, I did though!

Stop worrying! That looks normal to me. My LO's was like that and I must have popped it as I was changing it as he had a bit of blood on his vest. The hv said it was normal ad the puss bit came back a few weeks later. Of course if you are worried check with the doc but that's what ours looked like.

Tom's was like till it really, really burst at 5 months old when I caught it drying him off after swimming. Yellow gunk everywhere but it then healed up fine and he has the tiniest scar on his arm now. He was 5 days old when he had the injection.

Don't worry it's normal for it to be a bit funky and to take a while to heal.

Hey Lovemybubba and flippityflop, I used to live in Reading and go back all the time as my PIL are there. :D xxx

Hey ladies thanks do much for making me feel better. I've already got an appointment for the doctors so I might as well go (it's only up the road)

Flippityflop and blizzard- I live on a road Off of the Basingstoke road, near the top end, not too far from morrisons. How about you?

I used to live on Prince of Wales street, or avenue... can't remember hehe. Good idea to get it checked anyway :) xx

Unfortunately, the yellow pus is normal....my LO is over 6 months+ now and the spot is only now looking like a red 'spot', I had my HV double-check it as well at 4 months, so your worries are normal.....

We don't have this in the US and I'm surprised you had in the UK (I think it's on a regional basis and/or if there is a large non-UK population nearby); it's still normal in Ireland, but like you, I completely freaked out as well when it got pus-filled, etc. When it scabs over, and you want to cover (e.g. if the scab bleeds...sigh, again), use a soft dressing to cover, not a plastic); I did as it would stop LO from 'picking at it' or bumping it, especially when wearing shorter sleeves in the warmer weather....

best wishes

Perfectly normal im sure although my LO's swelled up after 3 months and had pus coming out, it's absolutely fine now x

The doctor said it was normal but for me to keep an eye on it. And if it was to get any bigger then to go back. He prescribed me some cream for it though. Thanks everyone for making me feel better

West Reading, just off the Oxford Rd - literally round the corner from Prince of Wales Avenue Blizzard!

I miss Oxford Road. What a weird place to walk down at 3am. One of the only 24hr fruit and veg shops I've ever seen haha. X

My LO must have been lucky, we had no puss only red & a scab. I hope they did the injection right.....we always worry about something don't we??

Same as poster above, no puss or anything, just a bit red and raised.

Just out of interest, why did everyone's baby have it? Mine is because OH is from Russia and we might go there / have his family visit here and it's on the WHO list of high TB prevalence.

Does anyone know if there's a particular time that they should get it? My LO is just about 3 months old and will need to get it eventually due to travelling back and forth to China. I put that on his medical info for the tb shot at his pediatrician's but no one has said anything.

Good to know that it can start to look like that though, I would have freaked out!

ours was done on the ward the morning after she was born. The pediatrician did it as part of her checks.

If you have a specific time you need it by, I'd ring your ped and request it, if I were you.

Thank you! We won't be going to China until he's about 2, we're a bit worried about going early as the air quality there is absolutely dreadful. So not in too big of a rush, I'll mention it to his pediatrician the next time we're there.
