Baby Éabha Grace - Born Thurs 07/06/12 @ 00.44 Weighing 6lb 15oz

Well ladies, Éabha is now 9 days old & an absolute dream of a little girl but my god she did not make it easy for me with her birth Ive honestly never had a more stressful day in my life, but shes here now & shes safe & thats all that matters!

05/07 - Went back to the hospital for an appointment to see if I was favourable for induction, we kind of knew we were going to have a bit of a fight on our hands as the consultant wasnt really into inducing until you are over 41 weeks & I was 40 & 3 at this stage! Well fight we had too......at this stage I was in agony with my hip & knew I couldnt take much more at all. Consultant came in & said he would induce on Monday, I just dissolved into tears, I didnt think I could hold out til Monday with the pain I was in Thank God for my hubby, he stepped in & totally fought my case & consultant actually listened to him & said he would induce in the morning!! As we live so far away from the hospital I was admitted that day to start induction the following morning at 6am - sent the hubby off home for a good nights sleep & tried to get some rest myself but was so nervous!!

06/07 - 6am came & I was taken down & put on a trace for 30mins before start of induction, just to make sure all was ok with baby!! She was happy out & wriggling about in there! Dr came in & inserted first gel & I had to stay on the trace for an hour to monitor baby - this is where it all started to get stressful! Baby was not happy about the gel & not tolerating it very well. Her heartbeat kept going up to 190 & all theses alarms were going off & the MWs were getting a bit worried, I was put on a drip to give her more fluids & the Dr took some bloods & stuff....this went on for about an hour until they told me to call my hubby & ask him to get here ASAP, if baby didnt settle we were going to need a C-Section, but with hubby at home over 90mins away I knew he would never make it if we did have to go to section! Called him anyway, trying to keep as calm as I could since I didnt want him to crash the bloody car trying to get to us! Rang my sister in tears then & told her what was happening, she was amazing at keeping me calm & rang me every 10mins until hubby managed to get to us! Once hubby walked into the room, little miss calmed her heart beat down & started to settle!!! Thank God!

They let me off the trace then & told me to walk & eat as I would need the energy later! So off hubby & I went for a few hours walking every inch of the hospital.....at this stage I had what felt like bad menstrual cramps in my back but nothing else! About 1pm we went back up to be checked & get a 2nd dose of the gel......Dr checked me out & said there was no need for the gel I was already 3cms & they would take me to the labour ward to break my waters......WOO HOO!! The relief was unbelievable as I didnt really want another gel incase baby reacted badly again! Labour ward was jam-packed though so we had to wait for a bed! We headed off walking & the MW said she would call my mobile when a bed came up! MW called about 2.30pm & we headed off to the labour ward.....was getting excited now that this was for real & we would be getting to meet our little lady soon!

My waters were broken about 3pm & the pains came hot & heavy from then on.....I already had the TENS on which was great....LIFESAVER Im telling you as all the pain was in my back, Id have be lost without the TENS, and the G&A!! Pains were getting stronger & closer together & when I was checked at 5pm I was 5cm....woo hoo!!! At this stage though I felt like I was getting no let up in the pain & asked for the EPI....in came the man with the drugs, AMAZING! Once the EPI kicked in it was super.....I asked him not to put it up too high as I wanted to feel the pressure, just not the pain so he did that which really was a life saver.....my poor back had felt like it was about to break with the pain!

The MW I had at this stage was a bit of a bitch to be honest.....she had no bedside manner! But thankfully she had a wonderful student with her who was great & so encouraging, esp when I was in agony waiting on the EPI! She was so good & said all the right things!!!

Managed to get a bit of rest once the EPI went in as the contractions had really taken it out of me! But then it all starts to go wrong, babys heartbeat starts to drop with contractions....firsts its just a little bit but then it gets bad, dropping more & more with each one, it went down to 60bmp at one stage & all of a sudden the room is full of Drs & MWs - they are putting drips in me & stripping me off & into a gown to head for a section - all the while NOTHING is being explained to me or hubby!!! Hubby keeps asking questions & Im bawling crying - then the MWs shift ends - THANK CHRIST!! In comes a new MW, shes from Belmullet (where we live) takes one look at me & calls a different DR.......He is AMAZING - comes in & gives me a hug.....explains everything, answers all of hubbys questions & says he will stay with us for 10mins & see how baby is doing & we will make a decision then! Babys heartrate is still dropping but its not going so low so Dr examines me & Im 8cm......he says we can do this & cancels section! The relief is amazing I seriously wanted to kiss the Dr! Have to say that through all this my hubby is AMAZING - he was so calm & was great at keeping me from freaking out!

07/06 - 2hrs later I am 10cms & we are ready to push! I could not believe I was going to finally get to see my little lady!!! After pushing for 30mins baby seems to be stuck - Dr comes back in to talk a look, oh dear my little miss is back-to-back & due to a previous pelvis issue my pelvis wont stretch any further.....baby is well & truly stuck Between my hip & her position the DR decides the best option is a forceps - Im terrified & crying now so he give me a hug & explains that Im pushing perfectly & if she wasnt back-to-back Id have had her out at this stage already by myself....tells me to focus on meeting her & we will have her out in 2mins! He had to cut me to put the forceps in but at that stage I really didnt care! Forceps goes in & 3 pushes & into the world comes my little Éabha Grace @ 00.44! Eyes wide open & the image of her Daddy! I was so overcome! She didnt cry though & needed to be checked over by the peds Dr since the forceps had be used on her, they took her off me to check her & then she let out a right yelp!!!! She had a mark from the forceps on her face but other than that she was perfect!!!!!!!

Hubby gave her her first bottle while the DR stitched me up......according to all the midwives I was very lucky he was the DR on-call that night as he does a very neat job when stitching!! We got to stay in the labour ward til about 3.30am having lots of cuddles & love with our little lady! Then myself & little miss went back to the ward to sleep & Daddy went across the road to a hotel to get a nights rest!! I spent most of the night just looking into her crib.....couldnt believe that she was here & safe & all mine!!!

We called her a Diva all through my pregnancy & she lived up to her name right up until delivery! But I have to say I would do it all again in a heartbeat, it was worth every single second! And the care I got at the hospital was very good, the 2nd midwife & the Dr were amazing to us & I am so grateful to them for getting my little lady into the world safe & sound! It wasnt an easy birth but it hasnt put me off having more babies.....if she wasnt back to back it would have been much easier!! She is a little super star, eating & sleeping like a trooper & Im healing up really well too!!!

Thanks for all the support throughout my pregnancy ladies!
