Hi everyone,

So my little girl - Beau Harper Goodson - was born on 31-03-13 at 00:10 weighing 8lb2oz. I was 39 weeks.

The day before, me and OH went in to town for a stroll around, had some lunch and I brought some raspberry leaf tea. Got home, had the drink and later that day we decided to treat ourselves to a curry at a local restaurant. That night I suffered with awful acid reflux and stomach ache, my belly was making all kinds of noises - I put that down to the curry. But all night I was tossing and turning, did eventually get to sleep but was awoken at 6:15 feeling like I had peed myself!! At first it took a few seconds to realise what was happening, jumped out of bed and woke OH. I felt a wave of excitement knowing that this was it!!

Once my waters had gone I didn't really have any cramping but rang the labour ward to let them know. I went in around 9:30 as they needed to check that it was definitely my waters (I was leaking that much I would have worried if it wasn't lol) and the colour was ok. All was well and we were given the option of going home, living only 5 minutes away we did. Shortly after leaving I started getting my first contractions, they weren't particularly painful though. Decided to go and get the car washed and popped to Tesco to pick up some more maternity pads (a big must as you go through so many!!!) but as we got to tesco my contractions became rather strong so I just sent OH in.

Once home they had calmed down. All day they were really irregular, coming every 10 minutes to every 40....it was rather frustrating. So I sent OH out to buy me an exercise ball to try and get things moving. At around 17:00 the contractions started coming more regularly and were more intense. As it was my first pregnancy I always wondered what the contractions would feel like, the best way I can describe them is like getting cramp in your leg. You know when one is about to come, gets really intense then dies back down again. I had a couple of paracetamol at home to try and help with the pain....not sure whether they did help or not though.

At 19:45 (ish) I went to the toilet and noticed my waters had changed to a greeny brown colour....she had pooed in me :( so OH rang the labour ward and we were asked to go in. I took a pad with me to show them the colour and they kept me in. A doctor came in to feel my stomach then asked to do an internal. She looked a little puzzled then asked for one of the ladies with her to bring in the ultrasound machine. Turns out my baby was breech :( this also meant I had to have a c-section - far from the natural water birth I wanted. Well I was given the option of trying a vaginal delivery but the risks were quite high so we decided the safest option for her was to have the surgery. I only had about 10 minutes to make the decision which I found hard and really upsetting. Once I had made the decision I had the surgeon come and see me and I had to sign the consent forms. Before I knew it we were getting ready to go up. When I had the internal I was at 3cm.

Once in theatre we ended up waiting an hour because the surgeon was in the next room dealing with an emergency. The staff were lovely though and kept me calm....although at this point I was getting regular, painful contractions and I hadn't had any pain relief whatsoever. Once the surgeon was free, things got started. She wanted to examine me first and to every ones surprise I was almost fully dilated!! But the surgeon said the safest option is to still operate. The spinal block wasn't as bad as I thought, the injections to numb me first were a little painful though. But losing the feeling in my lower body was the strangest thing. I was worried about feeling something more than anything.

But 10 minutes later I heard the first cry and it was amazing, so overwhelming!!! They cleaned her up before showing her to me but OH got to help. The first thing I saw once the midwife carried her over was the amount of dark hair she had. Once they had finished with me and wheeled me out, Beau was placed in my arms and we attempted to breast feed. She took to it really well and started feeding.

Having Beau is the most amazing feeling, words cannot describe how much love I have for her - even though she does keep me awake at night :haha:

Some photos below - one with her daddy, the others are what we took at home within her first week.
