Does baby brain really exist?
I have had the dizziest last 24 hours! It all began by me and my toddler getting stuck in his bedroom - yes I had to hang out the window and shout for help from my neighbours!!!! Then this morning I forgot I had left dh car at work so I was late to work as I had to walk, I then bumped said car into a car park wall - driving forwards, how, how, how???? (Shhh don't tell him no marks so it never happened lol) I stalled the car numerous times and got myself totally lost in a village containing about 4 hours cos I turned left after being told to turn right! Oh my gosh roll on bedtime!! 😀

Hi, my name is Carrie, and I suffer from pregnancy brain:wacko:

I never believed in it until I had it...ridiculous. Apparently I tend to think entire conversations have happened with people when the topic has never even been brought up. I will make up appointment times and then ask people why they didnt show...when I never even spoke to them!

It happens to me from time to time...but was worst in the very beginning. I left my purse at work one day. Drove home without my license or anything and didn't NOTICE until I got home which had never happened to me in the 14 years I worked here. Just a complete scatter brain!

I personally think it's a myth.

Evolutionarily speaking, pregnant women should be more sharp during their pregnancy as a defense mechanism.

I do think some women suffer from getting poor sleep, being stressed, and having a lot going on in their mind which of course can lead to some forgetfulness. But overall, no, I think it's 100% untrue.

I think pregnancy brain is just the "sticker" put on it because its easier than saying "Yeah im a restless sleeper, Im constantly thinking about the baby, Im mentally planning a nursery" etc.

I put something in the refrigerator that didn't belong there - garbage bags. (Empty of course)

I'm so please I'm not the only daft one hehe!
Cookette you made me giggle!!
Purple cupcake - interesting reports it gives me hope that I have just had a few unfortunate events and I won't be spending the next 5 months in total chaos!!

serious baby brain here, one clear example was this morning i set my cell phone on the window ledge by my door to put on my shoes, then spent 35 minutes searching my house high and low looking for it, then blamed DH for taking it or hiding it only for him to say turn 180 degrees and look straight ahead. (DH was outside the entire time I was looking so I know he didnt plant it there, also I have paranoia that DH is out to make me look stupid :haha:)

Some days are worse than others. I have a very stressful job. I'm the assistant manager and at this time it's just me and my boss (general manager). Our sales manager starts Friday but he has to be trained first which can take a few weeks or so. I'm just hoping that once he's here my stress will be relieved and I will stop having some many ditzy moments.

Oh dear :-/ my baby brain hasn't been quite as bad as some lol. But yes I've had the odd moment. I put a tea bag and a spoonful of coffee in my coffee, sure that would have tasted rank lol. Also when putting washing away I managed to mix up mine and my daughters knickers, was a bit surprised when I pulled a pair of my lacy ones out of my daughters knicker drawer the next morning. I thought she had been messing about with them until I found her ones in my drawer!! I also locked my poor cat in the other night, she had been caught in the garden playing with a dead bird, so I locked the cat flap so should couldn't bring it in the house. My husband went out and disposed of the bird, I completely forgot to unlock the cat flap. As the weather had been nice we kept the back door open all day and evening. Went to bed and went down the next morning to find poor cat desperate to get out and realised I'd left the cat flap locked!! Silly me

I'm sorry, I don't care what the study says b/c as far as I'm concerned even the doctors don't have everything figured out. This is my second pregnancy and I've had total lapses in brain activity.
Also consider, the level of tasks we are completing now versus historically I'd say greater in quantity (dishes, picking up kids, getting to work) etc. It could be that pregnancy brain is actually the body naturally making you focus on that babys well being reducing you indeed to those primitive instincts meant for survival.
By that logic as well, we should then argue that the neef for vision correction/glasses isnt a legitimate need since we didnt need it in primitive times. The fact of the matter is you werent straining your eyes regularly reading small text/computers like we do now. You didnt need to read an eye chart, simply needed to avoid predators and find food/shelter.

im not sure if i believe in baby brain as much but my god this pregnancy so far my brain just doesnt seem to work. Could be from lack of food/fluid intake. Id say i get plenty of sleep, but i am deffo feeling a lot more stressed in general. Who knows what cause is but, my brain doesnt work in same way simple as that.

Disagree. Life now is a bazillion times easier than it was in prehistorical times, as well as in semi-recent history. Daily life has gotten far less physically demanding, and with the invention of computers, cell phones, etc... it is also less intellectually challenging (except for those who choose to challenge themselves through continued education, reading, etc...) We do tend to be a lot more sedentary though, and eat a terrible diet, and those things absolutely lead to a decline in mental performance. Technology also may play a huge role in our getting less and lower quality sleep.

Second, this is also not true. Vision deficits have always been an issue, there just was no way to correct it in prehistorical times, so people learned how to cope. Ie, a near blind person would tend to the domestic tasks while those with acute vision did the hunting and gathering.

My OH came home the other day from work and he said they were talking about it on the radio and that our brains actually shrink a bit when we are pregnant. Part of what the baby absorbs from us. I had never heard that before but I know I get really stupid when I am pregnant. Even if its not scientific doesn't mean our head isn't up in cloud 9 or in the toilet bowl and we just don't function as well. So to me its totally a real thing
