my son sleeps really well in a swaddle blanket (until 8am!) the last few weeks though he has beeen breaking free (grrr) at around 5am and then knocks out his dummy, pull on the crib bars etc and is wide awake!! i then swaddle him right back up again and he falls straight back to sleep...

so for the last 2 nights ive tried him sleeping in a sleeping bag with his arms free, thinking that maybe hes getting uncomfortable being swaddled and would prefer it...... well weve had 2 total broken sleepless nights with him waking frequently.

im reverting back to the swaddle blanket tonight so i'll hopefully get some sleep!!! :happydance:

im thinking of getting a zip up swaddle pod tomorrow so he cant escape it.....
any recommendations and opinions welcome please mummys!! :flower: Xx

Have you tried a double swaddle, legs out?

It tooootttally worked with our little girl, she never ever broke out of it. We used a giant muslin cloth: https://www.bigmuz.com/ I have some I need to sell as we don't need them any more.

That's so clever, I'm definitely going to try it on Clara tomorrow!

When mine started to break out of the swaddleme blankets I started doing arms out, then both arms out quickly followed. It helped me wean her from it entirely.

Well I don't want to jinx it but Elijah fell asleep instantly when I put him in his crib at 7pm and he's not even stirred yet, I've been watchin tv in the bedroom and he's so far away in dreamland! His dummy has even fallen out and he's not flinched!! I definitely will be passing this secret on!!! Thanks again erikab922!!! Xx

Also look up the 'super swaddle" there is a you tube video on how to do it. Thats how my boy slept for almost 3 months. Worked like a charm! (looks like a straightjacket...but he loved it after a couple tries!). Just watch you don't have too much pressure on their shoulders with it. I always watched out for that, and that the first blanket was nice and smooth underneath him, not scrunched up.

Are you using an actual blanket to swaddle or a kind of swaddleme type of thing?

Either way.... take a smaller blanket or fold one and use that to swaddle just his arms down. Then take the regular swaddle and swaddle him with it.

We had to do that with our DD when we were still swaddling her because she would always break free and using an extra blanket to just swaddle down her arms really helped to prevent it from happening.

Oh wow, I tried this on Clara when she woke at 10.30 p.m. last night - she slept until 4.30 a.m.!! Had a feed and straight back to sleep and she's still sleeping now at 8.20 a.m.! She's normally awake at both 1 a.m. and 4.30 a.m. for a feed and up for the day by 6.30!

We use Ergo Cocoons - they are a zip up swaddle which gives the option of arms out. They are brilliant !
