So Miss Cadhla Rose Petra arrived into the world at 12.21pm on the 1st of October 2013, 8 days late & over 24hrs after my waters broke!

Sunday Sept 29th:
Had a lovely day with Miss É & DH.....was glad we had made it past my Dads anniversary which was the day before & think the fact I was now perfectly relaxed about babies arrival made the difference! Was heading to bed at about 10.30pm, absolutly shattered & ready to read my book in peace when I got into bed & felt a pop & a gush of warm fluid!! Jumped up out of the bed & the floor was soaked!! Cleaned myself up & went up to DH in the sitting room saying "I think my waters have gone" He was delighted!! Rang labour ward & explained what happened. I still wasnt having any pains or anything but due to the fact we live over 90mins from hospital they told us to come in & that I would be admitted even if pains didnt start on the way!
Since I wasnt in any pain we took our time getting É sorted & dropped her down to her godmother & had some cuddles before leaving. I was very aware that this was the last time I would be with my little lady without having her sister with us too & I just wanted to hold her close as long as I could!

Got to the hospital at about 12.45pm & was put on a trace for an hour......babies heartrate was a little high so I was given tea & toast to see if a bit of food would settle her. Thankfully it did the trick! Still no pains starting at all though so they did a little swab test to make sure it was the waters.......it was (thank god coz I was worried at this stage that maybe I had just wet myself or something!!)
Was admitted to the ward about 2am & told I wouldnt be going home again without the baby due to the risk of infection & if I didnt go into labour overnight I would see my consultant in the morning! DH went across the road to stay in a hotel since it was very late to drive home again & to be close incase things kicked off during the night!

Monday Sept 30th:
Barely slept a wink as people were in & out of the ward all night......comming in in early labour & then heading off to labour ward to have their babies....I was getting impatient to meet mine!
Around 9am my consultant arrived.....he was happy enough to leave me 24hrs from when waters broke to see if things would kick off naturally. Thats what we were both hoping for since I had an induction on É! But since my waters went at night he said he would leave me til Tuesday morning rather than induce labour in the night! Told me to get lots of rest as I would be needing it the next day coz we were having a baby!
Sent DH home to spend some time with É (I was missing her like crazy!) & he came back in the evening to stay at the hotel across the road so he would be ready for the early morning start!

Tuesday Oct 1st:
Was taken over to the labour ward at 6.30am & rang DHto come & join me! Put on a trace at 7am for an hour to check on baby & they explained that I would be examined & the rest of my waters broken if needs be, they would then give me 2hrs to go into labour by myself, if nothing had kicked off at that stage then I would be put on the drip, I was dreading the drip to be honest but I knew all I could do now was stay mobile & hope things kicked off!
Consultant came around 8.30am & checked me....I was 4cms & my hind waters were gone so he broke my forewaters & told me he would be back in 2hrs! Almost immediatly I started getting heavy period like cramps so I got straight up & kept mobile! Was walking & bouncing on the ball......contractions started to really kick in after about an hour & I was needing to breathe through them. I had my TENS on & was finding it great for helping me through the pains! I found that if I was on the ball they werent as strong so I was pacing the floor to keep them going! Contractions were now comming about 3mins apart so the midwife asked to examine me so she could speak to the consultant about the drip as she didnt feel it was needed! I was 5cms at this stage & she went off to speak to him! No soon was she gone out of the room & the contractations really started to get stronger & longer! I was down on the floor on all fours breathing through them with DH! The midwife was amazing.....she just let me get on with whatever I needed to do, I was squatting at the side of the bed & rocking on all fours.....just following my bodies lead really!
Contractions then started to come on top of eachother, I was getting maybe 20seconds in between them so I started on the gas & air.......it helped but I didnt like how it made me feel, I felt like I wasnt in control when I was on it so I asked for the epi. They examined me before they when to put epi in & I was 7cms! I remember it feeling like forever before they came to put it in & I kept asking DH why they were lying to me, I thought they were fobbing me off so that by the time the epi came I would be too far gone & wouldnt be able to get it!
Eventually some little spanish female doctor came to give the epi, at this stage contractions were on top of one another & she kept trying to get me to answer her questions about the risks & my understanding of them & all I wanted to do was hit her! I told the midwife I didnt like her coz she kept talking, which I apparently said quite loud & had everyone laughing!!! Opps!
When the epi went in though both me & babies heartrates dropped & lots of people came running into the room.....DH got a bit of a fright but they managed to get us both stablised in a couple of minutes! I dont remember this bit really except that I heard my consultants voice & shouted for him, when I came around he was holding my hand telling me it was all fine & not to worry!
30 mins after the epi went in I was able to tell the midwife I needed to push......the pain was gone but I could still feel the pressure & I knew I was ready so I got onto my side & started to push! Again the midwife was great, there was no shouting "push push push" etc... which I hate, she just kept me going by telling me how good I was doing & how much baby was moving down! And that she had tons of hair!!!! All of a sudden she was saying "pant pant" & then on the next push out came the not so little Little Miss Cadhla! She was delivered right up onto my tummy with a big huge shout!! And I was just so overwhelmed that I had done it all by myself!! DH got to cut her cord & we had a good 30 mins of uninterupted skin to skin before they took her off to weigh her! I knew by looking at her that she was much bigger than her sister but I was totally shocked to be told she was 8lbs 8oz!! She latched on then & had a good big feed while I called my Mum to let her know she was here! Mum was in having chemo at the time & it really made her day to hear from me that her second granddaughter had arrived into the world safe & sound!!

3hrs 59 mins of labour from when they broke my waters, with 16 mins of pushing......such a different experince to É induction, 12hrs of labour, over 90mins of pushing that ended in an OP delivery with forceps & an episiotomy!

People say having your first baby is like being hit by a truck but having your second is like being hit by a bicycle.....that was sure true for me! I was up & out of the bed by 3pm & felt I could have gone home that night to be honest!

Went home the following day & was just so happy to get home to my little É, it was the longest Ive ever been separated from my girlie!

Cadhla Rose Petra (Petra after my Dad) is nearly two weeks old & she is an angel baby! Feeding like a trooper & has already regained her birth weight! I couldnt be more proud of my two little ladies & just delighted with my little family
