Sorry for putting so many stupid questions on here! Feel silly that I dont know anything!

So can someone please talk me through in simple terms baby clothing?!

ie : during day the baby wears..... at night baby wears.....

I keep hearing body suits (long, short or no sleeves), baby grows, sleepsuits , snow suits....but really not 100% what is what and what combos to put together.....ive bought stuff that looks nice and decided baby wont know any better than I do!

Haha, me and my hubby are in exactly the same boat! We've bought some of everything and are hoping for the best. My mum says really baby will just be in baby grows for a while so not to worry. I've gone through the "Essentials" list in the Mothercare catelogue just so we've got everything we'll need (bought them from other, much cheaper places though!!), even if we don't know when we'll need it!

:)

It is all a bit confusing isn't it and I'm constantly worrying do I have enough smaller things, do I have enough clothes?

I just have 11 long sleeve vests, 2 short sleeved vests, 4 sleepsuits, 1 nightgown, 3 day rompers, 2 pairs of footed leggings. Then I will make combos with the vests underneath sleepsuits/rompers/ or with leggings on top.

I think I have about enough to get started on and can buy more if needed. I think the leggings will be great for slipping on over vests instead of always having a sleepsuit on. I have sizes 0-3 and 3-6 months that altogether seem to get gradually bigger as sizing varies so much so hopefully what I have will last a little while. I'm wary of getting more as don't know how much room there will be to grow into, which things I will like using best, or how often in a day my baby in particular will need changing (could be no times, could be several).

Your baby just needs to feel comfortable and not too warm or cold so won't know if you've done things 'wrong' or not. There shouldn't really be a 'right' way to dress a baby so whatever we end up doing should be just fine!

All of mine have practically lived in babygrows (all in one suit with long arms) and vests for the first 3 mths. Daytime and bedtime :)

Honestly I use baby onesies and the footie sleepers for day and night. It just depends on the temperature of the house and what seems comfortable for baby. At home you may only need to put a onesie on them, either short or long sleeve, if its cold you can slip a pair of pants on them. it's easier to slip off pants if they do get warm than chnaging a whole outfit!! When they are really little you may prefer to use sleepers as they don't do great at regulating their own body temps(if it's real cold a onesie under a sleeper works great). This will keep them warm and you can put your hand on their bare chest and back to see if they are too hot or cold.

It's all about comfort and ease, there are no guidelines =)

Ive never bothered with long sleeved vests. I just buy short sleeved vests and baby grows (the long sleeved all in ones). I have a few footless grows which are more like 'outfits' and a couple of cotton dungaree outfits. Just think comfy and less fuss. A snowsuit is an all in one suit what is used as a coat.

Sleepsuits tend to be the same as babygrows aswell.

It depends really on what time of year you're LO is due. I mean my daughter was born in August, so she pretty much lived in vesties (Short sleeved, no legs) But, my son, I haven't really bought anything other than sleepsuits/onesies (long sleeved, long legs with feet) I don't expect to put him in anything else for pretty much the first couple of months. Sleepsuits/onesies are really going to be the warmest and comfiest clothing for him. He'll also probably end up with a vestie underneath if he's cold. So definately get in a good few vestie and sleepsuits/onesies. My daughter still wears vesties under her clothes in the winter, they're fantastic creations.

At the end of the day you want your newborn to be in clothing that is most comfortable to them. Don't go for buttons or poppers on the back for example, as baby will spend majority of his/her time on their back, and really, can you imagine how uncomfy it would be to be laying on poppers or buttons all day?! Also, be prepared for leaking and exploding nappies.. I really wouldn't get expensive clothing for a bit :haha: Trust me!! It'll all end up stained.

Thank you xx Feel better now and understand PHEW!

lol got a bit more confused half way through reading that but thanks to common sense and google I worked out what that stuff was!

Onesies, rompers, footie sleepers lol - be much easier if they used one word for each type of clothing or if they were normal words! :flower:

dont be silly thats what this forum is for. We have all asked questions which we think is silly at one point, however im sure you have helped someone else by asking this too :) im planning on using onsies in the days and night depending on temp of room or outside as to whether they will be long or short ones. Then normal clothes for when I take her out. You prob wont be going far in the beginning so your LO will prob be living in sleepsuits, baby gro's and vests x

LOL!!! I've been trying to explain to my husband about the 'blowout diapers' where it goes halfway(or all the way) up their back!!! This is his first biological baby and he met my son when he was 2 so he's never had those delightful experiences, i hope I have the camera when he gets peed/pooped on!!!:haha:

vests , and body suits are the same,= these to give extra warmth day/night

onesies , baby grows , sleep suit, all in ones's are all the same, = can be worn day/night

snowsuit = coat basically

then you can have top/ trousers/ leggings which i would class as day time wear,

i have vests and baby grows only few in new born, few in 0 - 3, as people will buy ypu out fits ect and when you have the baby you will see things you will like for your baby whilst your out and about,
i think babys look cute in baby grows whilst young, grow up 2 quick anyway

I have some of everything - some babygrows, some vests, some snowsuits for when we go out and I have a few little outfits for when we go out visiting or have visitors. I have more in 0-3 but a few in newborn
