since 5.5 months we have been offering breakfast as it seemed like she was ready for solids. she was super keen the first two days but since then she has hardly wanted anything. We havent introduced a 2nd meal as she is hardly touching her 1st. We have tried pear, apple, banana mango, porridge, ready brek and she turns her nose up at it all (i havr tried mashed and puree) Today she even fused her mouth shut and spat her ready brek out. she does however love her sippy cup and is slowly learning not to drown herself in water lol.

Anyway i am not sure whether to keep trying or give up for a couple of weeks? she still has 4 7oz bottles and finishes most. she also has a night feed which can be 5-7 oz.

Since she is 6 months, I would just give her sticks of soft food on her highchair tray and leave it up to her if she wants to try it or not.

Banana, buttered toast, cooked carrot sticks, cheerios etc are good first finger foods. That way you're not putting food into her mouth that she doesn't want, and she is getting practice with her fine motor skills and can explore the smells and textures on her own terms. If she doesn't want any, just take it away. They don't really need the calories from food at this age, it's more important that they explore it and get used to the idea, so no need to panic if she doesn't take any food.

My daughter never wanted to be spoon fed anything - I suppose it must be weird having someone else spoon food into your mouth - but she did great with this method.

I also think that you could try finger foods if you wanted to see if she'd prefer that but some babies don't start eating anything really til they're 7 or 8 months. It's not a problem.

Hi, I could of wrote this post, in fact, that's what I came on to do!! And I saw this first!
My daughter will be 6 months on the 10th march and we started giving her a taste of solids last week. Well, it's been a nightmare! The minute she see's the spoon heading for her mouth she arches her back and clamps her mouth shut!! :dohh: she is defiantly ready for solids, she's a chunky little monkey and has all the signs of been ready for them ( I didn't notice the signs with my first as I was soooo excited to give her a bit of food I started her at 4 months  however, she was like a little bird and sat with her mouth open waiting for the next spoonful)
I gave her a mini breadstick yest and she LOVED it, she sucked and chomped away at it and managed to eat most of it. So I think this is the way we will have to go, but I did traditional weaning with my first and I'm terrified of her choking! she did gag a couple of times on her bread stick yest but managed to sort it out herself! whilst I sat sweating and stressing obviously, xx

I've been doing finger food. At first she was gagging a lot and being sick but she has been amazing the last couple of days. Today for lunch she had 2 sticks of roasted parsnip and a Yorkshire pudding. Literally demolished it.
I think it also depends on their mood. There's been some days where she doesn't even put stuff to her mouth.

Maybe try swapping the meal and doing lunch instead of breakfast?

My daughter has never really been a huge breakfast fan. Even now she can take it or leave it.

She has her bottle 20-30 mins after waking up. She refuses it if it is too soon after waking.

In fact, I think we did breakfast as the last meal we introduced.

Were BLW but I went with dinner first then introduced breakfast at a later stage.

My baby still wouldn't eat solids much at 6 months. I still would offer her food everyday, and she really started liking solids around 8 months. At about 10 months she loved solids!

Thanks ladies, I still offered breakfast today but instead of spoon feeding porridge I did buttered toast and slices of melon. She didn't actually eat anything but enjoyed playing around with it lol.

I thought I would try sweet potato puree for lunch and she ate most of it. I think maybe you are right Lou, I reckon its too soon after her morning bottle so she's not really that fussed for breakfast. Will continue to offer it but will focus on lunch and will start to introduce dinner soon too.
