We switched to ff 8 days ago and my ds dribble the whole time he's feeding we hav. To rap a muslin round him and its always soaked does this sound like its because he's not used to the bottle yet we've tried tt bottles and boots wide neck bottles all with no1 teats on any suggestions as I'm not able to monitor how much milk he takes as he dribbles so much out again but also he drinks water from a bottle fine now that's confused it even moore

My LO dribbled a lot when she was smaller, usually out the side of her mouth! We found the Tommee Tippee bibs with the padded neck to be really useful. She'd usually have one of them on with a normal bib underneath.

Maybe try the Variflow teats? My LO didn't get on with them, but I know a lot of Mums on here swear by them.

Is it wind? I find when Harry dribbles it is that
xx

Its funny u should say that I've just realised with his last bottle after a good burp he didn't dribble much at all he's a real night mare to burp though and very often doesn't burp so I'm thinking u could be right thanks hun xx

I lay harry down half way through and cycle his legs and that helps lots
xx

My LO has done this since being on a bottle. She had a least one bottle a day when she was BF. At 12 weeks, I weaned her and now she is FF. She is almost 18 weeks, and still dribbles out the side of her mouth. I have tried all teat styles and it has not helped at all. I keep hoping she will just outgrow it, but I am beginning to wonder! LOL

I had exactly the same problem! It was the TT bottles, it poured out, I knew the flow was too fast for him even with the slowest teats. Moved onto Avent, and these were slightly better, but gave him awful wind.....so finally I got Dr Browns bottles with number 1 teats, and these are really slow, and he only dribbles very slgihtly! Not to mention how much easier it is to wind him, so this could have helped too

I found that my LO dribbles out alot on the Tommee Tippee CTN bottles but I have tried him on the MAM bottles and found that he doesn't dribble on them so I am now going to replace all my TT bottles with MAM ones

My daughter is sometimes too keen to take her bottle she doesn't get her tongue round the teat correctly before she starts sucking, which makes it all dribble out of her mouth. Sometimes it takes a few tries to get it in her mouth right.

We have the tommee tippee slow flow teats, 4 of them. Three are fine but we think there is one dodgy one as she always dribbles with that one, without fail!!

Two things will fix, what you are experiencing, which is called a "poor seal":

1. A slow flow nipple.

2. Side lying positioning. Infants will naturally spit out any liquid he/she feels that they cannot manage...if you lay the baby completely on it's side to feed, the flow of the milk goes into the cheek and allows the baby to have better control of the liquid bolus.

3. Water is not necessary for infants under 1 year of age. It is a different consistency than milk and can cause problems with taking a bottle.

It makes it difficult for you to evaluate how much your baby is actually taking in, so it will also make it difficult for you to determine when he/she is taking less until it shows up on the scale.

Thanks but I was advised my my health visitor to give him water in the real heat that we've had lately as it been 34c we've resolvee the problem it was wind he only dribbes when he has wind now xx

Gabriel did the same thing. It was with the longer nipples to the Advent bottles. It was just too much coming out to fast and he couldnt handle it. So Ive been using the Breastflow bottles from First Years. It has a double suction in it so he has to push in and out and he controls the flow of the formula. They are WONDERFUL and he doesnt dribble at all. <3
