I have heard that there is an old wives tale that if the baby has a faster heart rate (above 150) it is a girl and if it stays low (130-145) it will be a boy. Has this been accurate with anyone? My sons heart rate stayed in the 140's and this baby's is always in the 160's and I am REALLY hoping that old wive's tale is accurate. ;) I am only 14 weeks and have an appointment Tuesday but I am not sure if they will tell me the gender that early.

Its soooo not accurate lol

I have a two and a half year old son ... His heart rate stayed in the 170s

I am 18w with boy #2 and his stays in the 150s

Ive also been told by numerous nurses, OBs, and MWs that the old wives tale is just that, an old wives tale and can not be used to predict gender.

Sorry!

The heart rate doesn't determine gender, when I went in for a private scan the woman said she would be out of a job if that were true. I'm having a little girl and her heart rate is usually in the 140s my son was the same.

I figured :( I was just staying hopefully. I will be happy if this one is a boy as well, but I really want a girl so we have one of each. :). Thanks ladies!

I was hoping the same in my last pregnancy, it didn't help that the midwife that first listened said it sounded like a boys heartbeat. It was always around 140 but she was definitely a little girl :)

Well my boy would come under the old wives tale , his heart rate is like a choo choo train, and at the rate of approx 140 each time, and he's all boy
Xx

my first son's HR was always in the 170's. this boy was in the 160's last appointment. i don't put much stock in old wives tales - if they were true i'd be having a girl this time, as i've had every girl symptom. but no, this one is all boy! :)

Both my boys hb has always been 130-140. Never higher. Works fr me!

It was accurate for me... my DS was usually around 140/145... and my DD was usually around 160/165.

I'm expecting #3 now and last hb was 134 (and my gut instinct tells me it's another boy) so I'll find out at some point whether it's right again!

As with any other mode of gender prediction, you have a 50/50 shot of it being right. In my case, however, the heart rate gender prediction was not accurate. At 12 weeks, my baby had a heart rate of 170. At 16 weeks, I found out that I was having a boy, and his heart rate was at 152. Since then, his heart rate has been in the high 140s, but I have not seen it go below that.

Also, one of my close friends is having a little girl in January, and her baby's heart rate is typically in the high 130s.
