Baby measuring behind...need opinions!

I'm starting to think that early ultrasounds are a curse, not a blessing.

I had my first ultrasound last week at 6w1d and my baby was measuring at 4w4d with a heartbeat of 79. RE said it looked good and were surprised there was a heartbeat already. Only issue was my sac was measuring small. There was no mention of the baby being "behind".

I had my second ultrasound this week at 7w1d. My baby was measuring at 6w3d with a heartbeat of 106. This time my RE says she is cautiously optimistic but is worried because the baby is measuring behind. She actually mentioned miscarriage.

In my opinion, I thought the scan this week was great. The heartbeat is within a normal range and the baby grew almost 2 weeks in 7 days. Anyone else have something similar happen? What were your results?

Sounds like your doctors don't know what they are talking about I say as long as heart beat is there they should not mention miscarriage some doctors are dumb asses just sayin...here's to a happy and healthy 9 months!!!

It's only less than a week behind with a heartbeat, I don't see much cause for concern there! Seems strange they would be worried with that since it did grow so much from the last one. Maybe the dates are off a bit? Maybe you implanted late? Don't worry just yet, I'm sure it's fine. Keep us posted.

I don't know what to say, but I remember reading something a while back that said at these early stages the embryo is so small that if the ultrasound technician's measurement is just a hair off it can equal days difference in dating. Also, I don't think you'd see a heartbeat at 4w4d, so I am thinking maybe they were off on the dating of the first scan?

I know that's probably not helpful at all, but good luck. I hope that it all turns out well for you!

The two times I've been in this situation (baby measuring more than four days behind and heartbeat lower than 110 at 6 weeks), it didn't end well, but maybe you have a tilted uterus which made it hard to get an accurate reading! Hoping all goes just fine!

With this baby at my 7 week scan baby was measuring 3 days behind and things have gone smoothly

I had a miscarriage in March. With that baby he was measuring 5w4d when I should have been 6w3d and had a hb of 90. I was very sure about ovulation date and got BFP at 9dpo so knew something was wrong. Over the next week all my symptoms disappeared and I didnt feel pregnant at all. I started bleeding and exactly 1 week after the first scan I went for another one. Baby was only measuring 6w ( grew 3 days instead of 7), had a HB of 102 and the sac had moved lower in my uterus. He passed a couple of days later

I think your baby is growing really well, you dont have any bleeding, and they didnt see anything else concerning on the US so things are looking good

Was is a transvaginal scan? Abdominal scans can be innacurate at this stage. And do you have another scan booked? Please let us know how things go. Keeping my fingers x'd for you xxx

Also, have you had bloods done? Your beta-hcg may give you more clues...With my miscarriage my beta hcg dropped from 7000 at the first scan to 2000 at the second scan.

I don't know what words of advice to give you. I'm in the situation that the tech dated our LO at 2 weeks behind what I was figuring. I go for another scan in 8 days (and it can't come soon enough). I was figuring that in my case, I was very ill with a flu bug early on and the baby didn't get enough nutrients and was delayed in growth. Praying for a great scan next time.

That sounds odd as you can usually only see the gestational sac at 4 weeks, then yolksac at 5, and heartbeat at 6. I would ask to have my bloods drawn.

At 6 weeks 1 day my ob let me know that not seeing the heartbeat would be normal so I shouldn't be alarmed. Im wishing you the best of luck!

Hey hun, I'm going through the same thing right now. I should have been 7weeks when I had my first scan and then said I as measuring about 5. I also had no heartbeat....I will have another scan on Tuesday to find out if everything is ok.

I'm right here with ya!! Hoping for the best for both of us!

hi i had mt first scan at 7+3 , the baby was measuring 6+5, the dr told me once there was only a week of a difference that was fine, at my next scan i was 12+1 and measured 12 weeks

You must have been more than 4+4 to see the hb. The heart doesn't start beating until around 5+6 so they must have got it wrong. FX that baby keeps cathching up

at 6 +5 they said i measured 5 weeks and they saw a fetal pole and heartbeat! i know my weeks are right so my measurements must be off!

I went for a scan at 6 weeks 5 days and they said it was measuring at 5 weeks with heartbeat, but five weeks doesn't match up with my LMP dates however it does match up with my conception dates! I read on a medical paper online that although it is a general rule that medical professionals go by LMP dating, the measurements of a foetus are actually accurate going from the date of conception, although they don't tell you this to avoid confusion between parents and with notes so they still say it's from LMP! If you're still with me lol this is so, up until the second trimester where it is much easier by developement to more accurately date our babies that's why they don't do a proper dating scan til after 12 weeks (in most hospitals/clinics)

i think if theres heartbeat and baby is growin theres nothin 2 worry abt look at pregnant women around us we not all same size u mite b havin small baby iv had babies were theyve been behind and almost caught up at end and they r 20,23 they turned out ok they sed my 20yr old was big baby i was lookin at 9lb er he weighed 7lb they dnt always get it rite please put yr mind at ease huni yr baby is growin and mite just catch up or just b small

iv just come back from the docs with a uti and i asked him about this and he said not to worry as they are off with measurements this early quite alot and as long as there was a good heartbeat everything should work out fine

I had a 5 day frozen egg transfer on August 26th. So, I would assume my dates are pretty accurate. I thought and prayed a lot about it last night and I feel like everything is going to be fine. My next scan is on Monday. I will keep you guys updated! Thanks for all the support!
