We didn't use a monitor with my son until he moved into his own room at 6.5 months. We used a sound only monitor until it was broken while traveling at 22 months. We then invested in a video monitor and we've been using it since.

I'm wondering what y'all have done with baby #2. My son napped near or on me for a long time (over a year), but I know that won't be possible this time around. I know in the early days baby will be able to nap in a carrier or in a safe spot near wherever I am in the house with my son, but it won't be long before baby needs somewhere quiet to get more restful sleep. Is it crazy to get a second camera and set it up in our room so I can keep an eye on baby napping in our room? (After baby is sleeping through the night and my son is out of his crib, the two will share his room with baby in crib and son in twin bed).

I guess I'm just wondering if it's worth it to purchase a second camera for what might be a fairly limited amount of time -- the time between when baby needs a quiet place to nap and when one camera is adequate in their shared room.

Thanks for any advice :)

With DS1 we had a £300 all singing all dancing baby monitor.. It connected to our iphones, I could see him while I was out (If I ever left haha).

However I noticed that it made me too paranoid, picked up every slight noise and was more of a nuisance than a godsend. So with DS2, we've had a baby monitor next to his cot since he was born - but only a cheap thing. It's done us (and him) so much better x

How about buying a cheap sound only monitor for your son now that he's older and using the camera for your new baby?

I bought a cheap sound monitor for number 2. And my baby is still taking all her naps in the carrier on me so it's possible! My DS was napping in his cot at 7 months but this one's refusing, she sleeps through anything except me trying to put her down.
