My 11 weeks old girl started to suck/chew on her fist and keeps waiking herself up.
This litteraly been happeninf for the past week or so. From birth she was waiking 2-3 times to feed during the night (6pm to 7:30am), but this night was up every 2 hours and settles quickly after short feed.
Could it be teething (my son had his first tooth at 5 month) or she just found her hands and now dicovering them?
I did not give her dummy/passified before as there was no need, but now i think this should help.

Anyone experienced similar? Did dummy help? If baby did not take dummy what did you do during teething time?

Could it be a new hunger cue that she didn't do before but now does? There is a 3month growth spurt.

Oh, i did not think about that, thanks for mentioning growth spurt. Anyway she refusing dummy now, so i just feed on demand and see how she behaves

Could definitely be teething - mine started at 10 weeks and got her first at 5 months.

Even now she suffers for ages before one finally cuts! We are onto the last four molars now but I am not expecting to see them any time soon. :(

I just waited it out really. It's hard when they are very young, as they can't usually hold and manipulate an object into the right place to chew on, and even just movement in the gums seems to drive them crazy.

Perhaps you could rub her gums with your finger, or hold a cold teething toy for her to gnaw. We got a MAM gum massaging stick in Boots which can be used from 3 months and is very slim, so easily reaches any painful areas. It has lots of different textured surfaces, and helps prepare them for having their teeth brushed, too.

I think she just discovered her hands. My boy is pretty much 11 weeks now and a week ago started to put his hands in his mouth as well and the duration of his naps have been greatly reduced. I have to hold him if I want him to nap longer than 20 minutes. He still sleeps about the same at night though.

I hope this is just something that will pass as the excitement of discovering hands will go away. My boy has started to grab as well along with the hand sucking.I don't think it's a hunger cue, at least in my case. I have offered him a bottle when he is trying to jam his entire fist in his mouth and he doesn't take it.

Thank you all for the replies
I guess there is no way to find out, hope she will return to normal sleep at some point, ive been quite lucky with her so far..

My almost 9 week old started doing this recently as well. She is also on a bit of a nursing strike so I thought it was a hunger cue. I offer her the boob when she does it but she doesn't want to eat. I think she has just found her hands and likes to suck on them. Now I'll offer her a pacifier when she does this, sometimes she takes it, if she doesn't then I distract her with a toy (I don't want her to be a thumb sucker - my siblings have messed up teeth from sucking their thumbs/fingers and my mom had a hell of a time breaking their sucking habits). I hope my little girl isn't teething already and she is just discovering/playing with her hands.

My baby is 12 weeks old and he is doing the same thing. I think its playing/learning. He seems to enjoy trying to get his fist into his mouth, I think its a game and he is just improving his hand/eye coordination.
