Baby weighs 5 lbs 5 oz at 33 weeks

I'm assured this is within the average range (71st percentile), but it seems a little large to me. Everything I've read estimates 4lbs something for this GA. I know scans become less accurate as pregnancy progresses but I still worry about having to birth a giant baby. Is there anyone out there who had a similar weight baby at 33 weeks and ended up with an average size newborn? I'm really hoping so!

I had a scan at 32 weeks baby measured 6lb he was way off chart! I didn't have GD!

And had a scan last week at 37 week baby measured nearly 8lb and is back on 90th percentile so has calmed down abit !

Good luck if there worried don't worry they will make a plan xxx

Hello there. I think it is normal. My first son was born at 34 weeks and he weighed 5lbs 10oz and was perfectly healthy. Only had to be in NICU for jaundice and was let out in a few days. My second son was born at 36 weeks and he was a little over 6 lbs. and he came straight home with me. I think if the doctor is not concerned, you should be fine. Me on the other hand, my mom told me that she had to get a c section at 7 months and I was over 8lbs! Yikes! Now that's definitely something to worry about. Good luck dear. Seems we both have August babies =)

Thanks ladies. Yes, my doctor assures me this weight is pretty average for this gestation but I'm a late ovulator and know I'm actually a week behind, so this baby is even heavier than he/she seems. I'm not overly stressed as I think my son weighed in at 6 lbs 2 oz around 33-34 weeks and ended up being 8 lbs 9 oz at 40+6. Fetal weight gain rates vary though (so my dr. says) so I guess I just worry this baby will be 10 pounds or something! I had a hard enough time giving birth to my 8.5-lb son! I really can't imagine anything larger! (As I cross my legs...)
