Did anyone get told at their 20 week scan that their baby had a larger than usual head?
This is worrying me now in terms of labour:wacko:
what does this mean?... I know her dad has a large head so its probably heriditary, but will head growth slow down for the rest of the body to catch up or will the head stay big?!
It's a bit hard to tell as there has been no more scans since, and just wondering if there are any ladies out there who have already given birth and were told they had babies with large heads at 20 weeks, but natural labour was no more complicated than a normal sized head baby.

I was wondering this too. When I had my scan they said that the head was slightly larger than average, but still within the upper limit. I just assumed it is because my partner has a big head :haha: He has trouble getting hats to fit him.
I hadn't actually thought about the coming out bit :dohh: I am having another scan tomorrow so will ask about the head sizethen.

I'm worried about this too. My baby's measurement was just within the top of the scale!!!!!! I'm going to mention my measurements to my MW on Friday at my appointment as I'm concerned that everything was bigger than average, particularly the head. I'm sure everything catches up wtih it though.... I hope :haha:

Thanks, glad Im not the only one. I dont know why Im not getting another scan but I would like to know whats going on down there, perhaps they only do another one if they are concerned about the growth. can I ask why you are getting a scan at 30 weeks? I have had the doppler at my MW appointments so I know its all fine, I just love the ultrasound tests its like saying Hi to baby :)

Me too my next MW appointment is on Thursday and Ive been sat worrying about this since 20 weeks. All I can see by looking online is that ladies who have had large headed babies have had large babies in general and usually end up having a C section.
Just want to know if the head is an important factor in determining the overall size of baby, as to be honest my bump isnt actually that big at the mo. If anything I would of thought the baby was small, but it is my first and I am getting a lot of intense stretching pain.

I wouldnt say her head will be way huger then her body but she will just have a bigger head then the average baby id say. Ive never had the problem so not sure.

The head, leg bone and abdominal circumference are the main factors in determining babies size. You wouldnt be that big at 20 weeks anyway so cant really go by that. There heads grow faster then their bodies before 20 weeks anyway.
I honestly wouldnt worry about it, still 20 more weeks of growing. If the midwife is concerned she will have u get another scan around 32 weeks.

what was the measurements for babys head?
mine seems big in comparison to others but i duno whats classed as 'big' and whats not x

Hi, Im 29 weeks now and still not mega huge, but people still think that I could have a last minute bump spurt in the month before. just wondering whats going on after they made this comment. They didnt explain at the ultrasound what the reason was for this hence why I got worried, if they said well the rest of the body catches up in relation to the size at 20 weeks then that would be fine, its not knowing though. I'll ask my MW this week though.

Just went through my measurements and at 20 weeks and 1 day my lo's head was at 19weeks6days (17.3cms). Normal range being between 18weeks+3 - 21weeks+2

So just a little small but still within normal ranges

Yeah im 29 weeks too and not mega huge. I wasnt with my son either but did pop out the last few weeks.
Do you know the measurement they gave? I just posted what my babies head was and what was considered within normal range so maybe you can compare.

193.0mm nearly at the end of the upper limit :wacko:x

Thats only 2cms bigger then what my babies head was and she is considered on the small side. Seems like your lo's head is pretty normal :) I wouldnt say its big at all. Did they say anything about the babies weight? Mine was estimated at 10oz

:haha: Maybe thats UK MW for you! (see you are in Aus)
They havent mentioned the babys estimated weight yet. I would love another scan to see whats going on, but wouldnt get this on the NHS now unless there were complications.
The MW has said that the measurement from my pubic bone to top of belly is correct though so growth in general is looking to be fine.

So your midwife said the head size is big then? I dunno personally i wouldnt worry, babies heads grow faster then the rest of their bodies. We dont get extra u/s here either but im having 1 at 32 weeks due to bubs being small and previously having a small baby.
If your fundal height it pretty accurate then all sounds good then :) Not everyones baby is going to measure on track, we all have different size babies.

I'm getting scans at 30 & 36 weeks to check the growth of the baby as my BMI is 36 as I am so fat they will not be able to feel the position and size. :haha:I'm a size 16 and not massive, but I am short which I suppose affects the bmi.

My baby's head has been near the top centile too. At 20 weeks it was 179mm, I have to have growth scans due to a previous small baby and at 28 weeks his head was 280mm.

Although its nearly at the topcentile no ones mentioned anything to me about it being big or harder to give birth and I'm only small :dohh:

xxx

Sorry didn't get chance to update yesterday. At my 21 week scan (dead on that date) the head circum was 193mm too. The estimated weight was 15 ozs.

I looked at this chart for my other measurements too and all were over
https://www.baby2see.com/medical/charts.html

my ds1 had a big head at birth just like his dad but its normal now in fact its nearly the only thing about him thats close to average the rest of him (height and weight) are still in the top 1/4 of all the growth charts, it didnt affect my labour , him having his arm up around his head did though lol
