My son is only tiny. He's 7 weeks old today and weight is on 9th percentile and his length I think is on the 2nd! Neither me nor my husband are huge and my son was only 6lbs 10 when he was born at 41 weeks. She was a bit concerned when she first measured and said that I can speak to the doctor about it at his 8 week check after Christmas. She then said she'd measure again just to double check but it measured smaller this time but still put him on the 75th percentile. Is this something I should worry about with him being so tiny? I had my eldest with me and he's always had a big head. I did ask her about his actually because it's like a football but she said it's fine and that both my boys have the same shape head. My husband has a tiny head. I think mine is probably normal size. Is this something to worry about?

It's unlikely to be anything of concern especially as your other child is similar. All of mine have jumped up to the 91st centile or even higher at some point regardless of their head circumference at birth. My youngest was born with a HC on the 25th centile, but by a few weeks he had shot up to the 91st which he has followed ever since, length and weight wise he started off on the higher centiles but is now on the 50th for both xx

DD is still on the 95th percentile for her head. She is only 9th percentile for length. They kept having me back to monitor it as with everything, it "could" indicate problems. Big heads run in our family though (it's all the brains ). My brother had a giant head as a child but now he is 17 and has grown into it!! The health visitor even admitted DD doesn't look disproportionate and it certainly doesn't cause her any problems. They have now agreed it's just a quirk of her rather than anything sinister and they aren't going to investigate further. If the health professionals are at all concerned they would send your son for testing. Other than that I'd not worry, we are all made differently.

DD's head was always big on 90-97 percentile. Her weight and height caught up to her head by 4 months :)

Luke's head is 70th percentile, his length is 20th and his weight is 42nd. I asked the doctor if I should be worried and he said no, some babies just have huge heads, and that his kid was one of them :haha:

lol I think I am yet to see a baby without a gorgeous big head!! ( mine included)

They'll grow into it.

My brother and I have massive heads, and I think DS is following in our footsteps - his weight is around 30th percentile, height just above 50th and head circumference is above 75th.

Our consultant (we're under a paediatrician for his hearing loss and potential congenital CMV diagnosis) says she'd be more worried if the head was particularly small, and a larger head isn't generally anything to worry about. Not sure if that's just because of the CMV thing, as CMV can cause a small head, but she definitely wasn't worried at all about his head being on a much higher percentile than the rest of him.

I just think it's housing his big brain. Don't know what my big head is housing because it certainly isn't a big brain!

My son's head was in the 95th % until he was 9 months old, and even now he's in the 75th %. I always have to buy hats several sizes up. I think it just means they are extra smart. :)

My ds was on the 98th!!! I wouldn't worry, I've not measured it again since and thankfully his head/body ratio appears more even x

My babe was in 6-12 month hats at about a month or 2. She was also 91st centile for head circumference and 25th for everything else. She's still short but she seems to have grown into her head lol!

My son's head was always bigger too. He's 14 now and just about grown into it as he's grown in height and build he's about 5'10'' now and it suits him iykwim. Your boys might just be big lads when they grow up xx

DS#1 was always in like the 15th for height & 50th for weight (twice he's been in the 75th like he is now hehe). But his head was always 75th or 80th.

DS#2 is in the 40th for both, but his head was the 15th.

My kids are weird.

My ds head was 75th at birth, 99.6th at 8 weeks and off the chart (slightly) last week when i measured it at 14 wks last week!!Started to worry about it after seeing it was off the chart but my older two have huge heads and so does his dad! I looked at my second son jumped from 25th centile at birth to 91st by week 6! Noone said a word..he is a very healthy 5 year old now :) x
