Hey, long time since I've posted here, here goes...

I bought a gro egg to keep an eye on LOs room and recently it's been hitting 21C in her room.
Her room gets all the sun in the day through its window and even with the heating entirely off and the blinds down it still over heats. I can't leave the windows open at night and in the day it's hard to open them too far as we have a lot of wasps from a neighbours wall that try to come in.

At the moment Emmy has been sleeping in our room so we can keep an eye... Any suggestions?

Can I leave her in there in just a vest or is it still too hot? What would you do?

I know we get told 16-18 degrees best but how is lo in 21?

Sam sleeps much better in vest, sleep suit, sleeping bag in 22degrees for example, not even a hint of sweatiness!

My LO is still in with us but the temperature in our room is consistently at 20-21. LO sleeps in a vest, baby grow and a summer weight sleeping bag. He's fine, feels neither too hot or cold.

Maybe a fan in the room for a while before LO goes to bed could help.

What tog gro bag are you using? If it's over 20 in your bubs room the gro company say 1 tog gro bag is what you should use. Our room hits 20 in the summer so we are using a 1.5.

Robyn's room has been 23 degrees in the evening but cools overnight. I have been putting her in short sleeve vest, sleepsuit and 1 tog bag otherwise she wakes cold in the middle of the night. Like a pp said, not a hint of sweatiness!

The girls room is at least 21C all year round, try as we might we cant seem to cool it!
The girls wear just a sleepsuit and 2.5 tog bag and never show signs of being too hot. We were questioning whether we should have put them in a 1 tog last night, but instead they had a footless suit on and 2.5 bag. We kept their window open until we went to bed then closed it. The girls room js at front of house, and although we live on a very quiet road, I woulfnt feel comfortable leaving their window open.

Our LO's room was 23C last night, she slept in a sleeveless vest, short sleeved t-shirt and footless pajama bottoms - think she was still a little warm even in that but she never woke in the night so must have been OK. Her room gets a lot of heat in the second half of the day so even when we keep the blackout curtains closed her room still heats up.

My LO's room is 23c at the moment and its fine, doesnt feel too hot in it. She wears Sleepsuit and 1 tog grobag and is comfortable. She isnt sweaty when she wakes.

My LO seems to sleep best at 21/22 degrees which his room seems to stay at. He wears a sleepsuit and a 2.5 tog grobag and has never been too hot or even slightly sweaty. We tried puting him down in a 1 tog for a few nights, but he repeatedly woke up cold and shivering. I think it all depends on the baby. DS takes after me. I need pjs and a heavy duvet even in very hot weather, whereas DH can sleep butt naked with no cover in the middle of winter lol.

I would see how she goes in that temperature if you can't cool it down. Maybe put her down in her normal nightwear and if she gets hot you'll know to reduce the tog or change to just a vest.

Its winter here and hearing temperatures in the 20s is making me jealous! My LO was born in summer in 30+ degree temperature and I was always worried whether he was too hot. I found that he would let me know if he was too hot and even now in winter he seems to let me know or he won't settle if he is too cold.

On really sticky humid nights I remember my LO in just a nappy all night! (That might sound crazy but some nights it would stay hot enough to do so).

xx

btw welcome back!

ours is around 21 (sometimes slightly lower but never below 19) and i still put her in a vest sleepsuit and 2.5 tog grobag. If your LO isnt crying i doubt they are too hot. I just check her chest to make sure she doesnt feel too hot. She pretty much never does.x

I'm not sure what temp it was yesterday, but it was scary hot. I've been at my mums for a few days and the guest room where LO and I are faces the afternoon sun and it is like an oven. Yesterday was just ridiculously hot and both my mums pet rats perished from the heat, which really made me nervous. LO had been sleeping in a short sleeved vest + sleepsack the past few days no prob but last night she woke up crying and when I checked her she was sweating the poor thing :(

I stripped her down, changed her, got the fan circulating air, gave her a cold lotion massage, nursed her and she slept in just her vest the rest of the night and I didn't get any sleep at all as I was so worried. Luckily its not an issue in my house as her room only gets the morning sun and is otherwise cool.

If you're worried about her getting too hot, you could try cooling her room with a fan before bedtime and letting her sleep without the grobag maybe? The temp should drop later on during the night so it shouldn't stay hot and if it turns out she does get cold then she'll let you know and you can try an extra layer/thin blanket perhaps?

My LO's room is generally always 21 and she wears a vest, pyjamas and a sleeping bag. Last night the monitor said it was 25 so she slept without her sleeping bag and slept through so she must have been fine x

I have a gro-egg and don't 100% trust it.... I have read reviews about them being out slightly too. I love the look of them though :) anyhoo, I'd suggest buying a second thermometer, like those ones which you stick on the wall. Just to double check. My egg will say 21 or so but it doesn't feel THAT warm in there and I still go to bed with pjs and under duvet. I put my LO in a babygrow without a vest but still use the gro-swaddle, she kicks her legs out and stuff if she gets too warm. But we have a hammock rather than a basket or cot and they are cooler.

I'd just use your instincs rather than go by the book, if they feel too warm then take a layer off and if you worry they aren't warm enough, use a thin blanket.... ect

Thanks Ladies

MrsHippo - I did think that about it... I have the thermostat in her room today and for once the sensors agree. It reads around 21/22 in the middle of the day.

I don't use sleep bags with her as she has been bed sharing with me since she was about 3 months old due to choking fits. This will be her first time in her room and the heat has me so nervous.

I will try her in a footless sleepsuit and a light sheet tonight see how she goes :)

We have two boilers in the cupboard in emilys room. One is turned off. Safe to say her room is the warmest in the house. She regularly wakes up with a wet, sweaty or dried in sweaty head :nope: xx

Its hard to know what to do for the best as the temp will probly drop in the night. Tonight i put lo down in a long sleeved vest and 2.5 tog sleeping bag, tho last night only did short sleeve vest and bag. It was 22-23 when i put her down at 7.30 x
